Morning Protein... Sleevie doesn't like it!

I've been a hot tea in the morning person since surgery almost 17 months ago.  I decided that I really want to tackle these last few pounds towards my golden apple (100 pounds).  My top weight was 249.8 so I'm really close.  My Sleevie likes hot tea first thing in the morning.  I've always waited 2-3 hours before putting in anything besides tea.

My Kaiser plan frowns on any sort of protein supplements, so I've only played with them in minor sorts of ways.  I know that so many of you swear by protein shakes/hot cocoa protein/coffee protein etc but the battle of good girl/Kaiser has always stopped me from really exploring the goodness of mega protein the way that some of you do.

I'm waving the white flag in an attempt to finally get my 100 pounds off so I'm giving the higher protein a fair trial this week to see what happens.

This morning I started with a protein hot cocoa since the thought of protein tea is awful to me. I tried it once, trust me I wasn't wearing a happy face.   I got down the protein and now Sleevie is in revolt and wondering what the heck I've gone and done.  Do any of you have adverse sleeve/pouch responses to early morning protein?  Did you at first and then got over it?  Does it get easier to stomach? (pun intended)

What do you think?

Hmmm - no, actually my pouch would rather have its protein in the morning.  When I have just regular coffee without, it gets yucky.

Not sure what to tell you... perhaps someone else will have some advice.

Good to see you here again Lee - we've missed you!

Thanks Jody, you're such a doll!  I have felt like hurling since drinking that protein cocoa.  Now, 1.5 hours later it's starting to settle down.  I read someone's review on the VSG board who said that his day really improved when he started having a protein shake as soon as he woke up instead of waiting a few hours.  I thought I'd give it a try.  He's been at goal for a long time.

could it be the extra sweetness of the cocoa  Lee  ?    Sweet makes my  pouchie churn  ....

i just had  coffee  made with organic coffee  beans  and cookies and cream isopure as the creamer ..  that was really good too  ....

but  Starbux  chai tea ( brewed strong  from their teabags )   poured  hot on top of thick  banana  isopure is my  old faithful everyday standby .   I really think thats  a yummy  chai tea  latte  like drink ... andyes it keeps me full and satisfied and the tea speeds my metabolism too...

funny I've gotten so used to my filling protein in the morning when i DONT have it on the weekends im like an eating   machine  in the morning ... its like  I cant get enough at breakfast n lunch ... and im hungry  or feel like " i could eat "  all through the day ... GRRR...

Ya know... I thought of the added sugar too, but since she's a sleevie I wasn't sure if it affected her or not... but its a possibility!

Yeah, I can plow right through sugar with no problem.  While I'm glad I can eat anything with my Sleeve, I'd prefer a poke from sugar than from protein!!

I can eat cheesecake straight up so I don't think it's the added sugar.  I have no reactions to sugar, except on the scale!

Interesting about you saying the same thing about feeling more even with food when starting with protein in the morning.  Well, after a protein cocoa made with water, I feel stuffed and I have 30 grams of protein in me.  I guess that's a good thing!

In Spain my son got a soy chai latte at Starbucks and I had a sip.  I had never tasted it before and I couldn't stop saying YUM and eyeing his beverage.  :)  I'm going to have to get some chai tea bags.  I've always tossed the ones I got in the past.  I just didn't know what to do with them!!

Lee, hope your tummy feels better soon!

I have had a protein chai tea before and it went down well, just tastes too sweet to me (I found a sugar free mix at World Marker).  I start almost every day with a protein coffee and it helps me stay full for several hrs and helps me start the day off right with protein and not eating too much.  But, it also sounds like you are in a routine that has worked well for you.  Maybe you could try to the protein hot cocoa later in the day and your sleevie will handle it better.

Good luck and congrats on the almost 100 pounds!  Woo hoo!!!

Thanks Jennifer!  What I've been doing has been working except that I've been up and down the same two pounds for a long time now and want to get down that 100.  I did love how full I was for the first 4 hours this morning!

I've never tried chai tea and have heard a lot about how good it is.  My daughter loves it but then she gets the fully loaded, sugar kind.

I need a recipe for it.... Ava...???
