WOW!  thanks, everyone for the great responses!  i love learning from people who are living what they learn and are willing to teach those going thru the same.  it was really hard to keep listening to my NUT after thinking i was hearing totally different information by people who have awesome lab numbers...

thanks again, and i love the conversation.  keep commenting if you have other thoughts...

My NUT and PA encourages Protein Drinks and I'm so thankful because they definitely work for me. I could never eat enough dense meat or food to supply all of my nutritional needs.  My goal is 100+ grams from drinks and then any Protein I eat is an added bonus.  I hated counting up my Protein in food because it made me feel like I was on a diet and on WW again.

I'm not sure if I looked up the right product but the Isopure Powder was the only one that listed 50 grams of Protein. You have to look at the labels closely but I'm thinking that is in 3 scoops of Protein.   It also has 300 calories and 25 carbs.  If you have tried it and you like the taste then I'd cut it in half.

The Syntrax has 23g of Protein, 90 calories and no carbs in a scoop.

oh, yes, thanks!  i just went back to vitaladys site and looked it up.  it's for 2 scoops!  thanks for clearing that up as well, lol.  i may have been confused by the sample when it came.

i think getting all your protein via the drinks would work better for me, as well.  much easier for my life!  thanks for sharing how you work getting your protein in, roz!

I think I've heard 30 grams in 30 minutes. I don't really worry about dense protein in my daily count for protein grams. I know I'm getting nutritional protein in shakes and dense protein just keeps me feeling stuffed and doesn't give me gas.

You are still early out and your stomach is still swollen from what it went thru. Don't worry about getting too much the first month or so, just keep drinking the fluids (protein or not). Once you get further out, you will feel like you can handle more, I do and my sleeve part of mine is 4 oz. I can manage an 8 oz protein drink easy enough these days. Food is still limited to about 3-4 oz.

From "ASMBS Allied Health Nutritional Guidelines for the Surgical Weight Loss Patient"

"One popular myth is that only 30 g/hr of protein can be absorbed. Although this is commonly found in both lay and some professional literature, there is no scientific basis for this claim."
