Hello! Here's my stats.

BMI flucuates between 41-42
Pre-diabetes(Type II runs rampant in my close and extended family, so does heart disease)
Recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnea
PCOS
Metabolic Syndrome

I am looking for a surgeon who will let me choose the DS.  Suggestions welcome.

Welcome aboard!

Let's see I'm really sure about Dr Elariny near DC and Dr Smith in GA. The surgeon in TX, Dr Stewart. Southernlady held a gun to Dr Boyce's head in TN and he did hers. (jk!)  He's not crazy about doing the DS on 35-ish BMI LWs but willing with comorbidities and he just lengthens the common channel a bit. I think Dr Anthone in MO will also do LWs and lengthen the common channel. That's all I can think of in our area.

LOL, Gina...didn't take much as long as he knew I knew about the DS and had the needed reasons for him to accept. I told him two things 1) I wanted the BEST chance aat diabetes resolution and that was proven to be the DS and 2) I needed NSAIDS as I was already on celcbrex for my arthritis.

If you have any type of arthritis already or have it run in the immediate family or any other disease that requires NSAIDS, please let him know.

My husband also found out that Dr. Husted is now in Somerset, KY but he moves ALOT. Use him at your own risk for that reason alone. However most of your followup will be done by your local PCP anyway so he might be a good option.

I think Husted is still in AZ but flying under the radar. That KY info was from 2009. He does move a lot.

Thanks for the welcome, Major Mom! It is a privilege to be in your house as well as the house of many super cool vets.

Southern Lady,
I got your post on the TN board about Dr. Boyce.  I thought I'd gather a few surgeons in my basket whom I might look into.  Concerning Dr. Husted: someone posted a "Where's Husted" thread the other day either on the DS board or the Main board, can't remember.  As far as they could tell he was in AZ, that's what the DS Facts site says as well.  I would not consider a surgeon who moves around, that's just my preference.

So you had to convince Dr. Boyce, hmm....  I'm not sure he would be fond of a little trail of low BMIers coming along.  Attack of the Lightweights!

I mostly had to convince him to take me on because I originally started with his partner who will NOT do lightweights or anyone under 50.

I left Williams and went to Dr. Pomp along with my dh but while my surgery was approved by MY insurance company, my choice of surgeons was NOT. I HAD to stay in TN. And no one IN NETWORK was willing to even consider a lightweight except for Dr. Boyce. Dr. Boyce was my last option because I had to convince him AND Williams to allow Williams to release me to Boyce. Not easily done as they don't like patient swapping IN HOUSE without a really good reason. Typically you start with one and stay with that one.

That's why I had to convince Boyce....once he saw my co-morbids, he was willing but it had to be agreeable to both.

Liz-
Your determination is admirable and seems to be the fairly common around here; for some reason the DS will do that to people, it'll make a fighter out of you.

There is Dr. Alfons Pomp at Weill Cornell New York Presbyterian in New York City.

I was at a BMI of 37 when I had my surgery. You have enough comorbids to certainly qualify for surgery.

Best of luck to you.

California is a bit far...for now.  I'm thinking within a days drive is reasonable, again, for now.
