pre-op appointments this morning... weighed myself

 so, my nervous belly is at it again.  i need to bulk up this morning, as my nutritionist appt is at 8:30 and my surgeon appt is at 9:15.  i weighed myself this morning and i'm at 179, YIKES!  my NUT told me not to hit that number or my insurance wouldnt approve me.  my friend told me that once i was accepted they wouldnt pull it back...   i dont know!  and, she said the 2 week pre-op diet is manditory with my surgeon.  so, if my friend is right, i have nothing to worry about.  my NUT told me this as well.  acfter i was accepted, it will be ok to lose.

so, my poor belly is upset and have diarrhea and just not knowing whats gonna happen, but i've got my questions written down and gonna eat a peanut butter sandwich and drink some protein drinks and hope i'll be ok.

Swinging lizards your appointment will be fine. Drink lots of water before you go in to be weighed. That "mandatory" 2 week pre-op diet... Lets just say not everyone has to do one at all--a day of clears before your surgery day, a bowel prep the night before and you're there. My surgeon doesn't have lightweights do the pre-op diet at all. He says if a WL surgeon can't work around a LW's liver, he has no business doing WLS. lol

 thats another question i have to ask, i guess.  my friend and i had a heated discussion yesterday about it.  she had lost 50 pounds before surgery and was pretty close to the BMI she couldnt go over, but i didnt have the extra weight to lose pre-op, so that may have a big difference in our stories!  her liver MAY have been fatty because she was a bigger girl than i was at the beginning.

Jenny, you will be okay.

Along with eating breakfast (and yes, I know it's hard with a nervous tummy but it's simply a habit to get into doing), make sure you have plenty to drink, AND wear yoour heaviest summer clothes. Don't wear shorts today, wear either capri's or long pants, esp jeans!!! You may be hot but it will add weight.

 thanks, liz.  i'm wearing a long jean skirt that i need a belt with, and i have a couple of crystals around my neck that my shirt is hiding, along with pedometer and cell- if they dont search me, i'll be fine, and if i weigh too much i can go "oh, wait!  i forgot i had this on".  lol.  with all this on, i weighed 184 (my scale is 5 pounds lighter than theirs, so i add 5 to my total.  hope their still consistant with that!)

i had a piece of peanut butter toast and a hard boiled egg so far.  just wish my diarrhea would leave me.  i think it's getting better, but cramping up is the pits!

Good luck Jen!  now, not that I'm condoning it, but i've heard people put on ankle weights and put rolls of quarters in their pockets.. lol.

Get tha****er in!  You'll be fine.  I really thought the Drs office had to take the weight you came in with, not what you were after your pre-op diets.  I guess they're all different.

 thanks, everyone.  so, heres the scoop for me and my surgeon;

this is the last time they even tell the insurance company my weight- or maybe last time was the last time... not sure, but i am now clear to lose weight!  so, part of me feels funny losing weight to have this 'weight loss surgery', but i'm not doing it for the weight loss, i'm doing it for my diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea, so i have to keep my head right there.  but, my NUT was saying that with the 2 WEEK PRE OP DIET they still want me to have, i may lose between 10-15 pounds.  in which case i'll be in the 160's.  and i'll be going into the surgery room for bariatric surgery...  it just hits me strange.

so, yeah, the NUT was adament that they always d the 2 week diet to shrink the liver as far as it can, because we dont want any chance at hitting it.  i didnt make a fuss, since she assured me they dont even talk to the insurance company about my case anymore.

everyone was so nice to me, after dealing with the NUT, who i'm not sure i agree with some things she says, or she wasnt being clear, but it was something we were talking about that doesnt pertain to me until later on in my healing process.  i trust you all who are living it more than someone who hasnt and just reads textbooks about us, you know?

but the surgeons assistant is wonderful and was very happy for me, told me that she had never had an insurance company accept a person while on the phone with her until my case- yippeeee!  she gave me a big hug and answered all my questions really well.  they can adjust some of the belly meds for my acidy tummy if i need it.

so, i asked the surgeon how long my stay should be - with no complications.  he told me, i'm going in on monday, august 1st, and will be in until either thursday or friday.  my hubby is very booked at work, and can only take off monday-wednesday.  of course, lol.  my mother is going to come and be with me during the days, since i am nervous and have this silly dog who thinks he needs to go out every 20 minutes or so ;-).  well, my mother and my daughter-in-law were going to travel cross country to meet my son coming home from duty (navy, on the enterprise right now) and to set up their home.  they were going to leave on the 7th, that saturday!  so i was thinking "so much for help for me when i first get home".  BUT, i learned today that those plans had changed and they are leaving on the 20th!  phew, i get my mommy to come and help make jello and keep the shakes flowing and let out the pup and make sure i'm ok.  i'm a person who doesnt mind people fawning over me, lol.  i've had 6 kids, it's my time to be taken care of!!!

so, thats the scoop for today.  i have some testing done on monday, and pre sugery intake on tuesday, and i start my pre op diet on the 17th!
