Good Morning. Support Group with Vitalady Report

Well, we had traffic problems in DC. Tractor trailer with hay overturned and caught fire on I66 just before rush hour. If you weren't already in the vicinity of the restaurant, forget it. {sigh} We still had a good group of 10 or so.  Then we went to the hospital for support group and there were 20-something folks there. Michelle talked about the vitamins we malabsorb or don't have enough stomach acid or intrinsic factor to work properly. She covered protein and fats for malabsorbers. All surgeries were represented and I think she did a great job advising the bands and sleevers as well as the RNYrs and DSrs. Pre-ops peppered her with questions, which was great. Some old timers without a connection to a WLS practice were able to get help as well. I'll go through my handouts and see if there are some nuggets to share with you guys later today. I feel pretty hungover this morning. I didn't get home until 11PM and I had been up since 4AM. A power nap is definitely on my agenda today.

Y'all have a great Wednesday. Whatcha doin' today?

Sorry about the traffic and I hope it didn't stop many folks from getting to see/hear Michelle.  What a great thing to have her right there.  Looking forward to any tidbits you can through out.

Meetings and working on the horse trailer in preparation for my trip.  I'm down to stuff DH has to help with so I have to go on his schedule, not mine, which is frustrating at times, to say the least.

Sorry about the traffic issues, Gina. Sounds like a very good meeting. Far better in info than the one we went to last night.

Today, a friend and I are going out so she can get something exchanged and so we can have "girl time" without dh's, her kids, etc.

Hope no one was hurt on the freeway. When we went to the Outerbanks, I was impressed with how many lanes of traffic there are through DC! Wouldnt want to be there monday morning or friday evening! Must be alot of people commuting.

How cool is that to have Michelle at your support group meeting.

Watching the girls today, I wish I had a day off. I worked 12 hours monday and tuesday. I am feeling wore out. I think my low iron and blood counts are catching up with me. I am getting labs redrawn next week.

Have a great day!

I must agree with Liz that your support group was much better than the one Liz and I went to last night.

This support group was moderated by two of the nurses who work in the bariatric unit at Park West Hospital. We were told by them that "they work with Gastric Bypass patients". *Sigh* I wonder how this is going to go.

Liz, myself, and a woman who had a Distal RNY were the only post-op people out of the 16 people who were in attendance.

Then we were joined by the "guest" speaker who was one of the dietitians who spoke to us (actually, read 1 1/2 pages of notes) on the importance of vitamins and minerals. (Actually reading to us on the importance of taking the WLS surgeon's PRIVATE brand of vitamins.) Everything you need in 3 capsules. [Oh, please!!!]

The support group Liz and I went to was one supposedly designed for DS and Distal RNY patients. Gina, I think I like your support group better.

Sounds like you all had a great meeting.  I hope the pre-ops really took in the seriousness of taking those vitamins and the different kinds.

I had to go get my monthly testosterone shot this morning!!  Last one I hope.  Blood work next month to see if my levels are back to normal.  Zumba this afternoon after work.  I need to be working and trying to close out the fiscal year and getting reports ready.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

Yogalates this morning. Then chiropractor, then my first client.  Then work with my daughter to get her back on track.  She has been off her bipolar meds for 7 months, has dropped out of school and was living in her car.  One day at a time!!!!  Tonight I have my second client just before dinner.

At least the new roof is waterproof!  No more leak in my old office (read: daughter's new room.)

Well... 66 issues don't surprise me, but sorry you missed your dinner.

I wish I could have been there to hear Michelle.  I went to a new Dr yesterday and I don't think he'll be onboard with my vitamin labs.  Said he wouldn't order all I've been getting - heck, the reason I wanted to find a new one was to get even MORE.  So... in 6 months if he doesn't order what I want, I'm moving on, and will be telling him so.

Went to the Cherry Festival last night and saw Kansas in concert - great concert!  Weather has been absolutely gorgeous this week, so that's definitely a help.  Spent the whole day in TC, got sunburnt (surprise!).  Yea... Tom and his daughter had to get up and head to work/school this morning, but I didn't wake up until 9:30.. retirement is good.  I'll enjoy it as long as I have it!

Today I got my link to start my Security clearance - oh joy.  But I need more coffee first.

Also have to take my son to the airport today - going back to Houston.  How time flies.  I did get to buy him lunch yesterday - lol.. and visit with him for a bit.
