Hello everyone im a new lightweight here
Just wanted to say hi. Im new on this site and its a wealth of information and sometime overload LOL But you can never have to much info :-)
I don't want to bore anyone with the same old stories, But my weight has been an issue since I was an adult. 225 was my average up to 260lb at 5ft 8 1/2 inches. I use to be 5ft 10 inches really but I been shrinking in height.
Anyway I could always get my weight down to 225 with eating right and lifting and cardio, but 2 yrs ago I had hyperthyroid and they did the radioactive Iodine treatment and since then even though my horomones are in the right level and I feel great in that respect the weight just piles on no matter what I do.
Im now 256lb and growing, so I want to get this under control ASAP. My BMI is 38, im type 2 diabetic, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and I have blue cross insurance which covers all of the WLS except for mini gastric and stomach staples
So at first I was thinking about the RNY which my sister had 2 yrs ago but the more I read I think im I like the DS better. I have read up on both and just think im a better fit for DS.
So with that being said, if anyone has any questions, input, suggestions etc im very open to any and all so please feel free to post or send me messages.
Thank you

You might want to read through Southernlady's profile and perhaps you've already found www.dsfacts.com . Dr Kemmeter is a very much respected DS surgeon in MI. (I think I read you are from MI.) Wishing you good luck on your journey.

Im just tired of being tired and want to be proactive not reactive and get things under control now before more things surface that maybe can't be helped with WLS

Yes, lightweights CAN have the DS. It is not that common. Dr. K, mentioned by MajorMom, is an excellent DS surgeon with a good reputation.
You might want to contact Dr. K's office to see if he performs the DS on lightweights. Some surgeons won't.
I have used diet, exercise, and my DS, to lose 111 lbs from my high weight.
Best of luck to you on your weight loss journey.
Dr Kemmeter is one of the surgeons in Grand Rapids that operates out of St Mary's....
SonnieN is an active person on OH and had Dr Kemmeter for her surgery. She's a great lady and would be happy (I'm sure) to answer any questions you have about him.
Oh - and welcome to the LW board!!

Gina (majormom) has a way her doctor sorted out who was the best fit for each surgery. Turns out I was the best fit for the DS based on my eating habits, I'm a grazer. It also didn't hurt that the DS has the best resolution for diabetes ( I am a type 2, WAS on an insulin pump and metformin, off both now). You can take NSAIDS with the DS, and doesn't cause Reactive Hypolycemia like the RNY has been known to do. DS'ers can still have RH but most of us had it pre-op anyway.
If you read my blog, not the one here but my other one, you will see I did the same roller coaster ride trying to figure out which surgery was for me. Started with the VSG (not covered at that time by my insurance), then the RNY, back to figuring out how to fight for the VSG, then on to the DS and why.
I hope you find a surgeon close to you but with a DS, traveling is more of an option that finding one locally.

They were surprised I had my bloodwork, primary docs approval, seminar booked and everything else already, I told them im type A LOL which I am.
They also said their average wait time from start to surgery is 3 months with some as quick as 6 weeks if you have a flexible schedule and everything in order like I do, so that makes me very happy right now.
They also told me to cancel my shrink apt up here so there is only one on record and its a simpler process in Grand Rapids and it makes it easier on insurance if they only see one not two evals which makes sense.
I can be a grazer or a binge eater, all depends on the day. If im home all day like today I like to snack, if im out working then its a 3 meal day.
Thank you for all the input, my eyes are going buggy from looking at the computer screen LOL Now on to that blog :-)
