Huge NSV.........

Although for me this really is a surgical victory because without surgery I couldnt accomplish what I just did.

Prior to surgery all of my post surgery goals were physical....I do not have a goal weight.  My BIGGEST physical goal was to be able to hike a trail near my parent's house that my father has hiked with both my brothers.  It is the Grandfather Mountain Profile Trail and it is 3.5 miles up and 3.5 miles down......basically hiking a mountain!  My older brother and his wife came up to visit my parents this weekend and my dad said he wanted to hike the Profile trail again with them.   I said I would join them for the first mile or so (I have done this before)....but that I wasn't ready for the whole trail (I thought MAYBE I would be in good enough strength in the fall).  We started it and I did fine on the inclines and they kept encouraging me so I kept going.  What I realized at the top is that I no longer have to limit myself. I have been overweight my entire adult life and so many thing I just did not do because I couldn't do them.  I DON"T have to do this any longer.  I can now try things and feel somewhat confident that I can do them or soon will be able to. This has been a great lesson for me and I PRAY I can hold on to this in the years ahead.
(We hiked for 6.5 hrs.....this was one rocky trail at the high end!!).

That is a huge mental and physical accomplishment and acknowledgement of your hard work.  Hurray for you.  Your are right, your attitude can change for sure about what you can and can't do.

 Congratulations!

I hate to ask this, and I hope I don't sound too stupid. What does NSV stand for?

I love Asheville and the Boone area! I grew up in Asheville and my son went to college in Boone. I miss the mountains! I would love to try hiking some of the trails up there again.
