guess i'm more welcome here

well, i introduced myself on the main RNY board, but the first commenter was only shocked that any insurance company would approve me, being a lightweight.  sooo, here i am!

my name is jenny, i've been struggling with my weight for most of my adult life, and with eating disorder for all of my life.  i have diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea, and i am ready to begin my new life!

i am a mommy of 6 (three mine, three hubbys).  my oldest drown 13 years ago when he was 14 years old, and my health deteriorated, with fibromyalgia finally being diagnosed a few years ago.  i struggled to get out of my funk, pretty agoraphobic for a while, not even leaving the house to take walks because 'people would see me'.

today, i am blessed with twin grandchildren, volunteering with a wildlife rehabber, and being in a singing group to help fund the wild critters food, shelter and vet expenses.  quite a change from just a few years ago!  i'm on stage where people really DO look at me!

so, when i heard that gastric bypass cures diabetes among other big things in my health charts, i ran to check it out and to see if i would be approved with the modest amount of weight i needed to lose.  again, i have been blessed, and i have a date!  august 1st, is my surgery day!  i'm very excited and of course nervous, but i have a wonderful support system!

really looking forward to meeting you, and i hope that i am welcome here, on the lightweight board, when i fear i have made some people upset on the main board.

 thanks, gina!

yes, we already have 45 baby raccoons that we have to bottlefeed, 20 something skunks, a couple of woodchucks, and a weasel!  probably a few more critters i am forgetting, lol.  it really is amazing to be this close to wildlife and to give back to mother nature in an incredible way!  last year we saved a fox.  he was a mess , really close to death, and we had to do some amazing work with him daily.  he made it, and we were able to release him back into the wild.

That's' awesome. I work in a suburb of DC and see all kinds of wildlife around the man-made lake where I wal****ep thinking what in the world are you guys doing so close to humans and all this traffic?  The baby rabbits are all out and about and I've seen red fox and skunks. The fox want to get to the Canada geese that come to the lake. I walk out there year round and love to watch the seasons change and catch sight of the wildlife.

Well of course you are welcome here! I am proud of you for being so brave to take charge of your life and begin the process of wls. We are here for you each step of the way.
As far as not weighing enough that is between you and your doctor. No non medical person should EVER make a judgement about someone elses health. I have a low bmi (31) but because I have a long history of failed diets, high blood pressure, and a family history of of diabetes & HB my doctor thinks I am a "good" candidate for gastric sleeve surgery.
So please keep us posted and glad you are here!

thanks so much for the welcome!  yes, it's very frustrating and why i am keeping it a secret from most people in my family.  lots of judgmental people around me.  unfortunately my mother has told two of the biggest people on my 'do not tell' list.  sigh.  she is a great support person, just not too keen on the secret keeping aspect, i suppose.

good luck with your journey, and i'll be keeping track!

Welcome!! OT question--we have what apoears to be a huge domestic bunny in the neighborhood. Should we try to catch it and take it to the wildlife center or leave it alone????? He is soooo cute. I hate to see it as "roadkill".

Good thing you found this board. Stick around you will like us!!!

Thx
Meg

i'm not sure about the laws where you are, but we are not allowed to relocate animals, just rescue when they are orphaned or sick.  that said, if you find a rehabber near you, and you tell them you "think they are sick", they may help if you are in a very populated area.  it's really hard for rehabbers.  we want them to be able to grow up and live free where they are, but when peoples habitats keep encroaching on theirs....  rehabbers are suffering with the economy, we dont get paid to do this work, in fact, we have to pay for the license to do the work, and then end up paying huge prices for the special milk replacers for each species and the vet bills and time and energy...  we are the only clinic open in massachusetts this year and last, so we are getting pounded, especially with the tornadoes that went thru a few weeks ago.
