Just did my first labs and Drs office called and said everything is ok except my ferritin is low. Told me to take 5000 mg of d3. I thought ferritin was something to do with iron? Help.

lol...sorry. Yep, you're right. Ferritin is your iron stores. You may be able to bring that up with 150mg or so of Vitalady's Tender iron and a couple of tablets of Proferrin (snapped into pieces). I take my Tender iron in the afternoons and my Proferrin at bedtime. Maybe you can get one of your docs to prescribe Proferrin Forte. If not, Vitalady carries Proferrin ES. The only difference between ES and Forte is Forte contains a little folic acid.

Perhaps your D3 is low as well but you'd need 20,000+ IUs a day of dry D3 to bring up really low D3. Don't let them prescribe oil-based D2. Worthless to us.

Are you going to get copies of your labs so you can track the numbers for yourself?

thanks for the reply. Yes i'm going to get them to send me a copy of my labs. I have been taking one proferrin es at bedtime every night. I guess i will take two . Should i take them at different times or is it ok to take them at the same time. I started out with the celebrate chewable iron and it constipated me so i switched to the proferrin. Can i get 20,000 iu dry d3 over the counter or is it rx at that strength?

You can take 2 Proferrin together.

You may only be able to get a brick and mortar store to special order 10,000IUs of dry D3. I've just found it much easier to order everything I need from Vitalady. Where do you buy your Proferrin?

I get my proferrin from vitalady. I went to her site and looked at the d3 what would be the best one to get?

I think I would order her Tender 5,000IU dry D3 and take 4 a day (2 in the AM and 2 in the PM) until you can get tested again in a few months. Another option would be to get the whopping 50,000IU and take one every other day and test again in a few of months.

Ferritin represents your iron stores.

Also - you need a DRY D3.  My ferritin is low too.  I've got a Dr's appointment next week to talk to my Dr about my ferritin.  I was TERRIBLE about taking my iron - bad me... my own fault.

Did they give you a number for your ferritin?

They didn't give me a number, but i asked for a copy of my labs to be sent to me, so i should have them in a couple of days.

I use the 50,000 IU vitamin D from VitaLady. I take it every other week in the summer and every week in the winter. But you can even take it every day if you need to.

You can get 1000 IU at GNC but then you have to take a ton of pills to get the amount you need. The 50000 IU is just easier.
