hair post - funny (x-post)
Ok, I did lose some hair after my RNY. Every month I made a panic stop at my stylist, who told me that yes, I was losing, but the new growth was coming in just fine. Hair loss stopped.
I had reconstruction. Hair loss began again, albeit not at the same level. It's still going on, but is slowing down.
The new growth from my age (mid-50's going gray), the RNY (and probably after the reconstruction) is much wavier than before. I always had thick, heavy hair where even short the weight kept it straight. Humidity didn't do anything to it - neither frizzed nor went limp. I had no understanding of "bad hair days" because my cut always let my hair do it's thick and straight thing.
Well, what I got now sucks up humidity like those sham-wows they sell on TV! Monday I washed my hair and put an leave-in conditioner on it (a regular thing for me now), and just left it alone. No styling, no nothing. Looked pretty good, as though I had styled it with a bit of a retro wave. Of course, we had low humidity on Monday morning.
By lunch it was fluffy, by dinner it was frizzy, and by bed time it stood straight out from the sides of my head like Bozo the clown! LOL!
Well, at least it's hair!

LOL - I've heard several stories (Gina too) where their hair grew in wavier/curlier than before. Mine stayed the same... guess that's good?
Not sure if WLS/hair issues has anything to do with this, but it seems now my hair color I've used for YEARS just won't adhere to my grey anymore. I really don't want to go pay $50 for the stylist to color it for me...

Not sure, if it is WLS related, but a few years ago, when my hair became resistant to the dye that my stylist used, she switched to a different formulation. Actually, she has had to do this a few times over the years. I think the hair does become resistant over time, which is how she explained to me.
I'm about 3.5 months out and my hair has started fall out. I try not to stress about it ~~thanks to all of your great posts that this is normal and hair WILL return...eventually.
I'm thinking I may need a little shorter cut. Mine is down past my shoulders, which is kind of long for me, but when I use a heavy conditioner in the shower and run my fingers through my hair....it is shocking how much comes out!!! I'm hoping that it is because the hair is longer that it looks like a lot

I hope this part passes quickly before I look like Mr. Clean.
