Don't sweat the small stuff. Your number one priority is getting your fluids in by hook or crook. One thing that works for some is to add a little fresh lime or lemon juice to your water and sweeten to taste with Splenda or Truvia. The little bit of acid may be just what your system needs rather than giving it plan water which might not agree with your new tummy and cause you pain. Also, try your liquids at different temperatures to see what works best for you. My go-to liquid was diet cranberry juice but I had to dilute it 50/50 because the taste was so strong. Many sugar alcohols give me gas but Splenda and Truvia don't.

Y'all have a great Monday!

Find a protein powder you are ok with.  It may take some time and taste do change but keep trying.  Life is so much easier when you can get your protein in and like it.

Find a schedule that works for you with your vitamins and fluids.  At this point, I try to get 20 oz inbetween each meal and don't eat again until that 20oz is done.  Helps in getting the fluid in and sometimes when I think I am hungry, I really am thirsty.  I also take my calcuim when I start drinking again after eating.  Tieing the two together helps me remember the calcuim.

Dont go over board on buying protein powder before your surgery.  Your taste may change.  Something you like pre-op may make you gag post op.

If the smell of the protein drink bothers you, drink out of a cup with a lid.

Educate your self on vitamins and labs.  As much as we would like to believe, out Doctors & Nuts do NOT know everything when it comes to our vitamin needs.

Its normal to feel weepy, exhausted after your surgery.  You have been thru a major surgery.  It WILL get better.

I'm going to expound on Prices post about the protein powder.  There are SO many kinds out there, BUT you don't have to rely only on the protein powder for its flavor.  There are a TON of surgar free syrups out there that you can mix in your protein to change the flavor up.  One of my favorites is SF Peppermint Paddy.  Its a mild tasting mint and I put it in my coffee.  So I have chocolate/mint flavored coffee - yum!!

Also on my profile I have a TON of protein recipies.  I'll go ahead and post in a new thread as its very long - there's some great frozen ones for summer.

Take measurements now.   Its great to see inches lost when you hit a stall.

Stalls happen.   Keep doing what you're supposed to do - the scale will move again.

Think positive,  You WILL be successful!

Attend support group meetings.

Walk! Fluids! Protein!

Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk!
You don't have to go fast, just move.  I firmly believe that my walking made my recovery so much easier.  They'll get you on your feet within hours of your surgery.  Keep up the walking at home.  My DH would take me out of the house once a day to a place I had to walk (Wal-mart, grocery store, etc...).  After the trip I always took a nap, but you gotta move.

The last thing you need to do is get dehydrated.  At the beginning, even if you aren't getting your protein in, drink your fluids.  It is terribly hard to recover from dehydration once it starts.

The first 1-6 months eating is hard.  Focus on fluids and protein.  Don't buy in to the NUT line that you have to get all your protein from food.  Get your protein from food or drink, but get your protein. My program required 60 grams, but I function better at 90-100 grams per day.  Most of us will tell you that our experience is that 90-100 per day is the goal.

Experiment with temperature of your fluids.

I still do better with liquids that arent ice cold. The first few months especially I lived on warm broths and decaf tea. I also used sugar free hot chocolate with lactose free skim milk  to help get fluids in too.

I love my brita water pitcher, it helps with the smell and taste of my tap water.

Keep a water bottle with you every where you go. Flavor your water, there are lots of things to choose from that are sugar free.

Dont spend alot of money on protein. Your taste will change postop. I was so glad I had got a  bunch of different flavors and brands from vitalady until I found some I could tolerate.

I love my weekly pill holder to keep track of my vits. So its just grab and go in the morning.
