??Seeking info: Do Sleeves Process Antibiotics Differently??
My NP saw me for an urgent care appt: diagnosis is a sinus infection, double ear infection, and one bulging ear drum. Started taking antibiotics yesterday afternoon, so it's been more than 24 hours. No relief for the ear and sinus pain:getting worse in fact. But i'm on antibiotics that normally kick my sinus infections to the curb.
Do we sleevies (or WLS patients in general) process antibiotics differently? Should I ask for a specific course of treatment?

I can think of two options: the meds are not sitting in the stomach long enough to be activated by stomach acid (i.e. you may need a different delivery method for your drugs such as liquid instead or capsules instead of tablets, no time release, etc.), or your infection is resistant to the meds you have. Either way, I would call your NP tomorrow and let her/him know it's getting worse. A friend of mine ruptured her ear drum and it's not recommended. Please call them tomorrow first thing!!
I agree with Abby. You may also try to take some vitamin C at the same time you take your antibiotic and make sure you have a quick release capsule or a tablet you can snap in two, if absorption is a concern. Good luck. Please keep us posted. I hate that you're hurting.
