Could it be strictures?

Hi everyone,  I tried researching this on the site but haven't really found a clear answer so I need to ask.  I tried taking my meds this morning and they got stuck, in turn, I had really bad chest pain which radiated to my back (both sides of my spine) and I threw the med back up.  A couple hours later, I took my multivitamin (which I split in half so they are tiny), the same pain came back and I threw that up.  I waited about 4 hours and started sipping powerade and my protidiet grape juice, voila, the pains came back threefold and I have thrown up every time I take a sip.

At my doctors appointment yesterday, they said it sounded like I may have a stricture due to common chest pains while drinking, but said they have never had a patient treated for one before so they didn't know if the endo-balloon-thingy would really help and they suggested I ride it out because they think it may hurt me in the long run (thinking if they made the opening bigger now that it may allow me to eat more later).

Right now, I am in bloody pain, chest and back, so I paged the oncall nurse, she said to wait it out for an hour, then try sips again before heading to the e/r.

Has anyone been through this?  Does this sound like a stricture?

Thank you angels.

Ride out a stricture??? I've never heard of such a thing.  I thought a stricture is when your stoma closed up?  Am I wrong?  It will NEVER open on its own.

Go to ER.. hopefully someone there will listen to you.

That's pretty much how they explained it to me (said the opening from my esophagus to my stomach was too narrow), but they said it should stretch out on it's own in another month or so.  I think it is just the fact that my specific dr's office has never had to deal with it before so they aren't quite sure what to do about it.  At this point, I trust you ladies more than my dr's office.

I'd trust the people here more than your Dr too at this point.  Others may chime in but from what I've heard when ANYONE has had this the Dr has had to do something about it.

I've never had one before... so I can't speak from experience.

My dr thought I had one but it turned out to be the beginnings of an ulcer. I did have the endoscopy done, I was I think a month out. I have NEVER heard of waiting on a stricture, it can cause you to dehydrate feirly quickly. I would head to the ER if needed.

wow I would NOT be happy if my doctor said they had never seen one before and didn't know what to do...what??? I agree you need to go to the ER. that isn't normal and you should not "wait it out" that is insane..

One other thing. Try chewable vitamins. I'm a year out and still take chewables. I tried the pills once and I felt sick and could feel them in my pouch. I also have never heard of a stricture being something that will pass. Hope things improve!

Rebecca.....so sorry you are going through this.  I also only use the chewables...I would be scared to death to try to take any pills!

Let us know what your doc or ER says. If you need a second opinion, my DR is also a general surgeon and is just over the mountains from you in Post Falls and they have a private hospital.

Hugs...hope you are feeling better soon!
