Citrical Calcuim w/ D Chewables
Has anyone tried the new Citrical Chewables? They are pricey, but i have such a hard time swallowing my calcium that I thought it would be a good change! Then I could do the Regular pills
followed by 2 chewables followed by 2 chewable calcet to change it up a bit. Anyone try them? How do they taste?

I'm all for multiple delivery systems of your vitamins and minerals as long as the calcium is calcium citrate and the D is D3...and enough of them. I do all capsules...don't like the pills. I've tried BA and Celebrate calcium citrate chewables and they were good, just not enough bang for the buck for me.

Thanks for the information....I guess these gummies will go off to my daughter! :) It's a shame cause they do taste good and they are so easy to take!
Can you explain why we can't take the "slow release" variety of calcium....this was the other bottle I bought the other day...the new Citracal slow release. (these are pills, not gummies) It's 1250 gr. of calcium citrate.
Thanks for the knowledge!!!

According to the citrical website, for 2 tablets they have 1200mg of a combination of calcium citrate and calcium carbonate - that is the first reason they are no good for us - they are only part citrate and they don't tell us what percentage is citrate and what percentage is carbonate. the carbonate is useless for us. As far as the slow release, which these are - throughout the day, the release a little bit at a time and by the end of the day - you get the full dose of 1200mg. Well, after the RNY or DS, our intestines have been rearranged and part have been bypassed causing our malabsorbtion. By doing this, pills go through our systems much faster so with a slow release pill or capsule, when it gets to the end of your digestive tract you haven't gotten the full benefit of the pill since it went through too fast - hence, you only got part of the dose. So, with our bypassed intestines, we need immediate release in order to get the full benefit of our medications.
The only medication I was told it is okay to take extended release is my PPI since all PPI's are extended release (or slow release) We don't get the full benefit of the dose and many do fine on it and others need to take them 2 times daily to make up for the decreased absorbtion.
As far as the citrical - we need to stick the old standards - the maximums or the petites. Aviod the new gummies, slow release and also avoid the ones with magnesium. The ones with magnesium also have zinc in them and you shouldn't take calcium and zinc together, zinc inhibits the absorbtion of calcium. I don't understand why a company like citrical is coming out with these new poorly made calcium products. They were always know as the superior calcium products. The citrical bone builder is the most suprising - you would think that is great for your bones - think again. It is a combination of citrate and carbonate and again - they dont' tell you how much of each and if I remember correctly, it has zinc which shouldn't be in there. So, make sure you read labels carefully. If you are ever not sure, post on here or you can always PM me

Thank you for taking the time to type out all this information! I, too am disappointed in the "Citracal" brand. I just wasted $20.00 on these two new products--Citracal Gummies and Citracal Slow-Release...and that was with coupons! I guess I WRONGLY assumed that "CITRAcal" products would be composed of calcium CITRATE. I've learned my lesson....more label reading and research for me! I also appreciate the info. about 'slow-release" meds & vits. I don't think I had understood this clearly.
These slow release tablets will go off to my mother and I guess I'm back to my petites and my chews....oh well!
Thank you again SO much! I'm having my one-year blood work in two weeks and my calcium would have probably been off if I'd continued taking these...

(A) They are calcium carbonate
(B) They are slow (time) release
So, wrong kind of calcium for all of us and being time release means they aren't a good idea for RnYers or DSers even if it was the right kind of calcium.

I just went to the citrical website and you are mixing up the 2 new types of citrical. There the tablets which are slow time released which you take 2 tablets once per day and they slowly release the 1200 mg throughout the day. These are a mixture of calcium carbonate and calcium citrate. So, the combination of the time release and being part calcium carbonate, they are not for us.
The chewables that the poster was asking about are the gummies and they are a totally different type of calcium. Here is a listing of the ingredients:
Corn Syrup, Sucrose, Tricalcium Phosphate, Water, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Pectin, Maqui Berry Juice Concentrate (color), Artificial Flavoring, FD&C Yellow #6, FD&C Red #40, Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol).
I am not familiar with Tricalcium Phosphate other than the fact that I know calcium citrate is the best. Also, these have 7 grams of sugar with the first 2 ingredients being corn syrup and sugar which will make alot of RNY'er dump. The next point, is gummies are not a great source of vitamins for us. They are best for kids, not adults. I would stick with either regular citrical petites or maximums - if you can't swallow pills, go to bariatric advantage or celebrate and get there chewables. The chewies from bariatric advantage are delicious - especially the raspberry. I also love the cherry lozenges.
