I have a sleeve (VSG).
Key components of my nutritional guidance for AFTER SURGERY were..

1. Eat three meals a day and limit unnecessary snacking inbetween meals.  If more than 4 hours between lunch and dinner, a snack is OK.
2. East slowly and chew your food until liquid.  Allow at least 30 minutes for a meal.
3. Avoid concentrated suger. Keep simple sugars out of the first 3 ingredients on the food label.  That includes sugar dextrose, HFCS, fructose, glucose, sucrose, molasses, honey, etc.
4. LImit high fat foods. Low fat is 3 grams or less per serving on a food label.
5. Stop eating when you feel comfortably satisfied, not full.  Full is too much.
6. Drink adequate fluids to prevent dehydration. 70-100 oz
7. Avoid drinking and eating at the same time. Wait 30 minutes after eating to resume drinking.
8. Choose foods wisely.  Protein first then veggies and fruits, then whole grains. Focus on getting the best quality food and high fiber to keep stomach full longer. Lifelong calorie goal is 1200 calories per day.  (for my goal weight and frame)
9. Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.  Commit to lifelong exercise, find something you love.
10. Consume 65-100 grams of protein per day in food and/or supplements.
11. Take vitamins and mineral supplements as needed by labs for the rest of your life.  (minimum of multi-vitamin, calcium with vitamin D, additional D, and iron)

after surgery food progressions...
weeks 1 & 2, full liquids diet
weeks 3-4 pureed meals
weeks 4-8 soft foods
after 2-4 weeks of soft foods, gradually introduce more food choices, keeping food records of tolerances and intake. Be mindful to keep meals low fat, low calorie, sugar-free and portion controlled the rest of your life.

For protein supplements, look for products with...
1. whey protein isolate, versus whey protein concentrate, which has lactose (milk sugar)
 2. at least 20 grams of protein per serving and less than 8 grams of carbs
3. less than 5 grams of sugar per serving
4. avoid or limit protein collage-based products (incomplete form of protein missing tryptophan)
5. use pre-mixed or powders, whichever you prefer, mixed with water or milk.  Avoid mixing with full juices
