Heres the situation from my point of view 21/2 years post RNY . Im REALLY GLAD i didn't tell anybody BECAUSE at this point .. its ONLY diet and exercise that keep me from regain.
The surgery itself stopped working long ago . If I ate what I want to like nuts and real cheese and fast food ...
well Id be fat again in no time .
If I stopped moving ... Id be fat again in no time
believe me , I still own a body prone , chronically prone to gaining unwanted weight .
So as far as Im concerned I deserve ALL the credit for being the size I am . Im glad I never let the cat out of the bag because that cat would be following me ... at a point that its no longer true.
YEs the surgery made my hunger go away temporarily and helped me get started losing when nothing else would help. It jump started my metabolism off the diabetic cliff . Ill always be grateful forthat .
But right now .. I can eat almost as much as I could going in ... its my choice WHAT that is .
It takes serious discipline and focus on a non- food centric lifestyle for me not to slip inevitably upwards...

Ava, you are so right. I am almost 10 months out and everyday I have to make the right decisions about what to put into my mouth and to exercise. The further out that one gets, it is less about the surgery and more about making the right choices about diet and exercise. The WLS is a tool, to help us to get to a healthier BMI. It is up to us, to maintain that loss and to make permanent changes in our lifestyle and habits.
