Hey everyone!!!  Drove to Houston - 2 grueling days - alone with my own thoughts - LOL.  Luckily I have Sirius/XM and listened to Talk Radio most of the way.

Alan moved into his own apartment and I brought down his bed and other "necessary" things a guy doesn't think about.  Teamed with my daughter and between us the only thing he didn't get for his kitchen was a can opener.  I took him shopping today at Walmart and found him some good deals on a desk, tables, etc.  Of course as an "enabling" parent, I paid.  Boy is just spoiled rotten.  He knows it and I know it.

I'm trying NOT to make his apartment "girlie" but giving him input into the decor - until I found the deal I was looking for.  A "lift up" coffee table (I had one and he loved it) and 2 end tables on clearance for $99 - woohoo.  So back to WalMart goes the one end table he didn't put together.  Its been pretty comical watching him put together the desk...  he's pretty happy with it.

Its just hotter than He** here.  101 my car registered today.  I love hot - but when you come from Northern Michigan to this.. really???  He misses the area and is wanting to come back already.  He's a small town boy with cold temp roots... maybe some day.  He realizes he has to do what he has to do to get there.

Probably will head home on Tuesday.  He'll be back the following Monday.  It has been good seeing him again and I DO miss him.  I'm only accesing the internet via my phone as my data provider, so its pretty limiting.   I've been trying to catch up on everyone and I see some newbies - Welcome!!! Whether you've already had your surgery or not, I want to welcome you to the LW board.

So that's where I'm at.. Had lunch today with a lady from the Singles board and her daughters - cute!!  I saw her when I was out here earlier this month too.  She's having her plastics done at the end of the month so we've had a LOT to talk about.  I LOVE meeting up with other OH'ers

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.  Since retired I really can't remember what day of the week it is sometimes - LOL.  I will be starting a new job about the 2nd week of July so I need to enjoy the time I have!!  Tom mentioned going to work today then going to a local meat market for some ribeyes.  I said "oh blowing off work this afternoon"  then realized it was Saturday.. Oh geez...I'll blame it on low iron and old age...

Jody, I'm really glad a job came through for you.  I don't think I saw any update on that before. You weren't retired for long were you?

No - about 6 weeks, which is good.  I've enjoyed my time, especially being able to help my kids out during that time.   I may start out part time for awhile then transition into full time.  That works for me, especially being summer!!

I'm glad you made there safe!  I'm an "enabling" parent too and even though I wish I wasn't I just keep doing it.

I guess I missed the post on the new job.  What is it and where?  I thought Tom was retired too?

No - you didn't miss anything.  I didn't post on it because it wasn't 100% for quite awhile.  I still haven't signed any papers... but its a good chance.

No, Tom isn't retired and can't for 5 more years...  Its as a contractor for the DOD - Navy doing Program Management work and software testing/requirements work.  It will be challenging.

My niece works for DOD but I'm not sure what branch.  She has a great job and they treat her really good.

Sounds like a fun trip (overall!)   As the "older" parent of an "only" child, you haven't met ENABLING yet.....She's only 11...can't imagine what it will be like dropping her off at college!

My husband is from Texas and we LOVE visiting there....it's a great place, a lot of good people!
Your son will probably grow to love it!

Have fun and have a SAFE trip home!

Its been SO hot since he's been here, and I'm sure once winter rolls around he'll be loving it. The people here drive just nuts... I'll be glad to get back home to  my slower pace!!

Yeah, "retirement gal," watches and calendars don't work in retirement.  I've seen that phenomena in other folks. Can't wait another 15 years (WAAA) to see it for myself.

congrats on that probable job.  Do you have your PMP?

Tracey - no I don't.  I looked into it but have sidelined it for now. The job I will have will give me good practical experience and when that's done, I may retire for good.  We'll see... always an option.
