Update on my Dr's appt

I went and made a GYN appt too because it was time.  I like my GYN a LOT better than my PCP.  I had decided  that if things worked out well with my labs and talking to her I'd cancel my appt with my PCP - which I did.

She seems to be very well versed on vitamins and WLS.  We talked a bit about VitD, B12, ect and I think she figured out I knew a bit about about vitamin supplementation after WLS.  She's also a big fan of mine about WLS.

She wrote an order based on the vits I had missed after my last labs (told her I fired my surgeon).  She also referred me to an Internist for my iron.  I also gave her a copy of my lab tracking spreadsheet, which she was very impressed with and suggested I take to my Internist appt.  That's on July 6th.

So - more to update on my Iron when my Internist appointment occurs on July 6th.  I want to thank everyone for their input into my iron situation.  It means a lot to me.

Thanks again!

Yay!  I love a good doc.  I love my Gyn, but she is not well versed in WLS. I have yet to find on who is, except my chiropractor but he can not help with labs etc.  I too would love to fire my surgeon, well not him personally Becasue I love him, but never see him..only his useless office staff.  Sounds like your gyn is a keeper. Good luck with the internist on the 6th.

Thanks Sheri.  The only time I"ve heard from my surgeons nut is when my D was too high..  Other than that - nothing, including my Ferritin being 7......

So - we are our own best advocates.  I can't stress that enough.. No one will take care of us better than ourselves.

I'm so glad you have someone who will take the time to talk to you and help you figure out what's best.   Keep us updated!!

My GYN had WLS and has gained a lot back.  We've known each other a long time outside the office but at my last visit she was in and out with barely a hello.

When I had all my parts, I used my GYN more as a PCP.

I don't think it really matters what the initials are, you just need someone to run stuff by, add information, etc and that can be almost any medical professional.  Glad she can be that for you.

What a shame the surgeon doesn't do a better job of follow up.  While I agree we are the ones who have to protect ourselves, we are also from a limited group who actually will do that.  It scares me when I read the other boards with folks who have not a clue what they have gotten themselves into with this surgery, have no idea how to eat or what they need to stay healthy.  Let's hope they have a gaurdian angel somewhere looking out for them.

I think it's great Jody you have a good relationship with your GYN doc and it is sad you don't have god follow up with the surgeon.

I'm very lucky here in Australia and I have had my same surgeon and his whole team right behind me over 10 years now.  He has a great team of obesity nurses, nutritionist, as well as other specialist surgeons in his practice. Surgery over here has cost me practically nothing as when I first had the LapBand surgery all those years ago the surgery cost began a lifetime "warranty" so I've never been out of pocket since then.  I have a standard booking with my surgeon every 3 months and can call him or his team at anytime.

Cheers from Karin (in Oz)

I'm glad your GYN would listen to you Jody.  Good luck with the internists.  I love my GYN and used her as my PCP for years until everyone kept telling me I needed a PCP too.  My PCP doesn't really know alot about WLS and doesn't seem to want to learn much - she thinks I've lost enough and won't do labs for what I want!!  I like her and she does listen about my other issues.

Keep us updated on what you find out.

It's so wonderful you found a doc you like! It's rare these days, isn't it. My primary is a nurse practitioner and let me tell you how much smack I get about her not being a "real doctor". To me, she is more of a real doctor then anyone with a PHD. She listens, she cares, she's proactive, and she cares about ME.

I'm so happy it was a positive experience for you!

What exactly does an internist do?

Kelly - my GYN is a Nurse Practitioner too.  I feel the same way - she's as much of a real Dr as the Dr in the office... and I like her a lot better

She said an Internist would be a step above a PCP, but they do specialize more in blood disorders.  We'll see!!!
