Update on my Dr's appt
She seems to be very well versed on vitamins and WLS. We talked a bit about VitD, B12, ect and I think she figured out I knew a bit about about vitamin supplementation after WLS. She's also a big fan of mine about WLS.
She wrote an order based on the vits I had missed after my last labs (told her I fired my surgeon). She also referred me to an Internist for my iron. I also gave her a copy of my lab tracking spreadsheet, which she was very impressed with and suggested I take to my Internist appt. That's on July 6th.
So - more to update on my Iron when my Internist appointment occurs on July 6th. I want to thank everyone for their input into my iron situation. It means a lot to me.
Thanks again!

So - we are our own best advocates. I can't stress that enough.. No one will take care of us better than ourselves.

My GYN had WLS and has gained a lot back. We've known each other a long time outside the office but at my last visit she was in and out with barely a hello.

I don't think it really matters what the initials are, you just need someone to run stuff by, add information, etc and that can be almost any medical professional. Glad she can be that for you.
What a shame the surgeon doesn't do a better job of follow up. While I agree we are the ones who have to protect ourselves, we are also from a limited group who actually will do that. It scares me when I read the other boards with folks who have not a clue what they have gotten themselves into with this surgery, have no idea how to eat or what they need to stay healthy. Let's hope they have a gaurdian angel somewhere looking out for them.

I think it's great Jody you have a good relationship with your GYN doc and it is sad you don't have god follow up with the surgeon.
I'm very lucky here in Australia and I have had my same surgeon and his whole team right behind me over 10 years now. He has a great team of obesity nurses, nutritionist, as well as other specialist surgeons in his practice. Surgery over here has cost me practically nothing as when I first had the LapBand surgery all those years ago the surgery cost began a lifetime "warranty" so I've never been out of pocket since then. I have a standard booking with my surgeon every 3 months and can call him or his team at anytime.
Cheers from Karin (in Oz)

I'm so happy it was a positive experience for you!
What exactly does an internist do?
She said an Internist would be a step above a PCP, but they do specialize more in blood disorders. We'll see!!!
