Barbara, it's funny that you would ask me this because I was just going to talk to Gina about the requirements for the different types of WLS. It used to be almost everyone on the LW board had the RNY but now there are so many other surgeries represented and I don't think all of our menus are the same.
I will see if I can get someone to help you.

Barbara, I didn't forget about your question I just don't think I'm the best one to answer you. I have sent Macmadame your Profile name and asked her to contact you. She is a successful VSGer and is very knowledgeable and helpful.
I practically live on Protein Drinks and then I fill in with small portions of whatever my family eats.
When I was in the losing stage I would increase my protein drinks for 3 or 4 days and then drop back and that ususally got me losing again.
My menus usually consist of: 100+ grams from Shakes and then I add Protein foods (chicken, chicken hot dogs, chili, cheese, nuts) and 1 fruit a day.
I rarely eat pasta or bread and I never eat rice. If I do have pasta, I don't eat more than 1/2 cup at a time and I plan on only 1 "bad carb" during that day. I usually eat Quaker High Fiber Instant Oatmeal about twice a week. I rarely eat Protein bars but if I do, my bar of choice is Rock n Roll and it takes me several days to eat it. I sometimes snack on popcorn at night if I was low carb during the day.
I still dump on sweets so those are pretty limited but usually 1 or 2 small bites satisfy me and it's usually not as good as it looks....LOL
I hope some of this helps you.
