Don't know if I'm a lightweight... but I'm surely scared!
Welcome!!! I'm glad you found us! Hopefully if you stick around and get to know us you will start getting excited about having surgery!!
I hate doctors and I hate tests but none of the pre-op testing upset me. I had 5 or 6 friends who had surgery before me and the were losing and looking so good that I was just super excited. After I made the decision to have WLS the excitement of it happening soon just took over and the six months just seem to fly by.
I was also scared to death to talk to my PCP but he answered YES so quickly and added "do you want today to be your first visit" that I almost fell off of my chair.
It was my family that was the pain in the butt for me. Mainly my DH and my oldest DD. They weren't for it at all. It's a good thing I had my youngest DD on my side.

Thank you all for your responses. I do have some other questions/issues for which I can't seem to get answers.
One of the fears comes in that I will be home alone after the surgery, and I have no clue how capable I will be to get back and forth to the bathroom and such. I figure that my husband could leave a jug of water next to me and that will keep me hydrated....... I guess I just have NO idea how bad the pain will be (and I'm N O T good with pain).
The hunger for the first couple of weeks doesn't bother me.... hey... I'm a professional dieter! LOL Everything from fasting for two weeks (except liquids) to nothing but boiled chicken legs.. etc.. you name it.. I've tried it. I've doe Medifast, Nutrisystem... etc. I just need a better tool and I figure that at 48 years old, I don't have much time to enjoy what's left of life if I keep gaining. I just don't have the energy to go back to hitting the gym twice a day while getting up at 4 to make his breakfast, pack his lunch, clean the house, tend the chickens, tend the garden and all the other little miscellaneous things. Where is there time?
I want to be excited about this...................................... but I'm fearful. My husband is about to be laid off on aug 31.. and he can buy the cobra for 18 months.. but after that, he will go into full retirement which leaves me out in the cold if something goes wrong.
What are the chances of something else going wrong after that much time?

Recovery is really pretty easy usually. I took a few weeks off but there are lots of folks who go back to work in a week or so. You will be tired but you just rest, walk and sip and it doesn't take long to be feeling better.
Don't worry about hungry after surgery. they cut your nerves and you really don't feel hungry for quite a while, like months. Maybe some head hunger, but not real hunger. Most of us rely on eating on a schedule to get in what we need.
Although I was very ready everytime to move to the next phase of eating, I was never miserable at any stage.
My Cobra ends in Dec. I will have to get other insurance by then but I am so much healthier, I don't think it will be an issue.

Except for the first day home I would have PREFERRED to be home alone for hours to do nothing but rest and walk...and walking back and forth to the bathroom is good for you. I also walked steps (full staircase), up and down the hall outside our bedroom many, many times cause it was too blasted cold to wlak outside at the time.
They should send you home with pain meds but I found that I didn't need anything after I got home. The worst pain was from the gas of the lap and no pain med will help you there. Time, WALKING, rocking back and forth while sitting, and having someone rub your back all help with the gas.
None of us know what will happen as far as complications, whether we will or will not have them but then again not having the surgery can also leave you vunerable to being hospitalized or need a doctor. We could also walk across the street and get hit by a car, life happens. We can't worry about the future just plan for it.

I was so afraid last year I could barely deal with it all. i continued to jump through those hoops, much like you are doing and when I finally got my (tentative) date, I became relieved.
I think I may have a high pain tolerance, and experienced no pain after surgery. I was very tired and slept a lot that 1st day. I walked the hospital halls a lot, and was definitely uncomfortable. I was back to work 1/2 days in one week, and by the 2nd week was totally fine, albeit tired. You will have that darn "anesthesia fog" for a spell...
It's hard to say what problems may arise, but most of us do just fine. Just be obedient with your surgeon's timeline on foods, anf you'll do good. Like you said, you got the dieting part figured out. This tool is so helpful! A gift for sure.
Good luck!!!!!
