Not feeling the best
Tuesday I did some community service and painted fences at the local Ronald McDonald house. I picked up water when I started and drank water the whole time. I got over heated and dehydrated anyway. I just couldn't take in water fast enough. I probably needed electrolytes too.
I got a terrible headache and didn't go back to work. I felt better when I woke up on Wednesday, but by noon was spending more time in the bathroom than at my desk and I went home. I made it through work on Thursday, but left right on time. I was feeling draggy and fatigued.
I took my blood pressure on Thursday and Friday morning. I keep a BP monitor on my night stand and I take my BP before bed when I think about it. Before WLS, I was keeping an eye on it so it didn't get too high. DH and I thought it was very low so I made an appointment with my PCP. The numbers in the office were normal, and she discounted my home readings as my monitor. My WLS Dr does labs at 6 and 12 months so my PCP sent me off to get some blood drawn (results due back today).
I spent the weekend laying around not doing much. I significantly increased my protein intake to make sure I was getting 100+ grams. I take my multivitamin 2 times a day. Calcium 3 times a day. Iron every day. B-12 5/7 days per week. D3 twice a day. Probiotic daily. I feel better today. The sense of fatigue is there, but not like last week.
I thought I'd ask the experienced ones. Do you think it was just dehydration and it is taking me longer to recover or is there something else going on here? This was my first "what is going on here" moment since surgery and I don't like it. In my mind I'm supposed to be strong as an ox, not weak and whiny.

Kay - I don't know what it is, but I've had a LOT of dizzy spells this year, and I know its dehydration with me (unless low iron causes this too...). I find when I eat and hydrate then I feel better. Just had it awhile ago too outside and I had just drank an entire glass of ice tea.
Hopefully your labs will be good and it is just dehydration - we have to be SO careful about this. I do think it affects some of us more than others, but like I said - last year I didn't have this issue nearly as much.

I'm not sure which test she ordered. I know she ordered a vitamin D check, but I'm not sure about the rest. My mind was not in a place where I thought to ask. It know it is silly, but I don't always think straight when I'm not feeling well. Only 4 vials of blood this time.
Potassium has crossed my mind. I've been very steady about running liquids through my system. I have to wonder if the water combined with the malabsorption might be flushing some nutrients.
I'm thinking I should supplement Potassium for a while and see if it helps. It is so brutally hot here. I sweat just walking to my bus. My friends keep saying "eat bananas". I just say "Good idea!" while I'm thinking "hell, no. Too much sugar."
I'm going hiking in Yellowstone this weekend. I'll need to get some Potassium soon. On the plus side, it will be much cooler than south Texas, and I will be with my sister and sister-in-law, both doctors. Nothing like bringing your emergency medical team with you.
My PCP is a lap-band patient. She lost 60 pounds, but has been eating her way around it. She's very interested in my RNY and how I'm doing. And she knows where I'm coming from and is very empathetic. Her office called to check on me, but the lab results weren't back yet.
I'm feeling much better. Thank you and everyone for your concern.

I think Ure puting Ur body through the necessary sauna - detoxification - sweating years of accumulated toxins out process Kay
and yes it DOES make U feel like ..well ... garbage. VERY temporarily .
I really commend U for thoughing it out though ( and when things get too rough .. turn on the air conditioning ! ) its a quick fix.. or take a cold shower , get Ur head wet and lower Ur internal body temperature to turn the internal furnace down ...
U MAY be dehydrated ... when i feel weak and / or nauseous or just "not right " fora few days its almost always what is ailing me . I make myself drink a half gallon of cool water and few hours later im magically back to my energetic self .
