Update on possible gallbladder issue/Endoscopy is scheduled

I saw my surgeon this morning and actually got a copy of the report.

According to the report, it's distended, I have a small polyp and have a function of 32% with 30% as the absolute minimum.

He still wants me to have an upper endoscopy to check for an ulcer before proceeding with possible surgery.

Oh well, good thing we've already met our out of pocket expenses for the year.

Avoid the food that has been setting off the attack...
you should already be on a lo fat milk, or skim...
make sure anything that has any  oil about it is  blotted fully and is dry. make sure your chicken is picked apart to get all the  fat  that hangs up in those moist peices(this is what is usually a trigger for my fat  reaction)
If you are hungry for sausage, there is a way to cook it that removes almost all fat, even I tolerate it... Just  slice it, put it in a saucepan with three cups of water and boil it til done, then dip out the patties, put them in a dry skillet and brown them...  then drain and compress between paper towels...give the  water and the fat to  the hound dog, they need the calories...
Another food that may cause attacks in some people is lettuce...I.don't know why...

The problem is...I HAVE to eat fat and up until my first attack, it was never an issue for me. Since I don't absorb but 20% of fat anyway, and have to have it to be regular, going no or low fat isn't really an option. The ONLY milk I can tolerate is whole milk and these days it has to be lact-aid anyway due to my lactose intolerance.

And I don't know about you but I can't do dry...my sleeve rebels. Moist is what keeps all things working.

I am eating salads just fine. doesn't bring on an attack but I eat spring green type lettuce not iceburg. My attacks haven't happened after a salad.

I haven't pinpointed the actual culprit but I know it isn't salads of milk/dairy/any dairy food with fat in it.

I think what is the trigger is celery but I haven't nailed it down for sure yet.

Just a difference in how different people respond to these surgeries..  My Mom was having attacks that mimicked gall bladder and it was an ulcer.... so til you find out be really kind to your stomach...avoid acids if you can...
. I can't do anything dry, either,  because of my pouch, but I can't use hardly any fat, I try to make sure it is Olive oil....I use a little chicken broth , or sip a little warm tea or coffee when I have anything dry and that  takes care of  the dry....and enables me to eat something like 6 ounces of food and 3 or four ounces of  whatever liquid I am using.
I usually eat one main meal and two snacks a day.  breakfast is..maybe toast with a slice of lactose free cheese,( Borden has an american slice out now, it just became available about two months ago here.) and I'll drink coffee with about an ounce of regular lactose free milk in it.     I'll fix us something  in the afternoon, a  heavy protein with  string beans or potatoes... and another light snack about 9...since we are often up until 11 or midnight..  I also use  whole lactose free milk, no more than I use,  2 0r three ounces a day is not going to destroy my diet anyway.   ... tho I tolerate rice milk and  chocolate soy is really good, I do not like plain  or vanilla soy, It will ruin before the expiration date.   The important thing is for you to  find the trigger... it took mom a while to find hers...

I feel for you Liz!  After going through my recent gall bladder hell, I can't wait to get mine removed.

I don't have stones but I'm having it out anyway even if the HIDA scan shows it's functioning.

Yasmeen...the HIDA scan was recommended at the bottom of my report but I suspect my surgeon will bypass that.
