Did anyone else experience nausea in the weeks post op?

I had VSG and terrible nausea, which apparently occurs in about 30% of VSG patients. They gave me the scopolimine (sp?) patch usually used for sea sickness. That helped with the nausea, but gave me dry mouth and caused a flare up of lichen planus, an autoimmune illness I have, which filled my mouth with sores.

The long and short of it is that the nurse said fluid was most important. There is a sports drink, Powerade Zero that she recommended. It really helped hydrate. The nausea ended suddenly, just felt better one day. During the worst I quit trying to get down protein, just fluids. I didn't think I would ever feel good again, but I did.

Hope you get through this quickly.

Thanks Wendy.  I do have a bunch of that powerade zero on hand (which was fabulous before the nausea really kicked in) now every time I take a drink I feel like I'm licking a salt block, lol

I didn't have nausea but our Drs gave us scripts just in case. I would try the over the counter stuff which certainly helped me when I was flying years ago.
With fluid, for months, cold stuff didn't get it.  It had to be warm.  Warm tea was the best but I could do broth and decaf coffee also.  Even room temp was so much better than cold.
Dehydration is serious.  If you can't get the fluids in, get to the ER.  I don't see how they can not pay for it.

I had terrible nausea and vomiting for the first month. The constant nausea went away after the first month, but I still vomited a couple of times per day for the next month.   I think some of us just have a different healing process - our pouches are extra sensitive or something.

You are right that dehydration will make it worse.  Eat lots of SF popsicles and sip sip sip sip sip.  I wouldn't go to the ER, I  would just call my doctor again and tell them how bad it is getting.  Insist on speaking to the actual doc this time.  Although the anti-nausea meds didn't work for me because I would just immediately throw them up anyway.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time.  The good news is that it will pass.  Doesn't make it easier to go through it though, I know.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and support.  I was able to get down 24oz of crystal light and 3 sf popsicles yesterday afternoon, and it stayed down.  I am feeling a little better this morning.  I don't feel like it is going to end anytime soon, but its better.  I'm working on my first 8oz of crystal light this morning, so that is a better start than yesterday!  Hugs to you all!

Glad you're starting to feel better! You can always try OTC anti-nauseants like gravol before you attempt some protein again.
