Quick question, I just go back from a 5 mile or so walk (didnt measure how far it was) now I am super dizzy? Every time I get up my head spins. I had a protein coffee before I left and I am hydrated. I was thinking my sugar so I did eat some sugar to try to help but I am still dizzy, any suggestions?

It's possbile that's it's reactive hypoglycemia.  It's very common after WLS.  Myself and many others on this board have it.  I find protein and fiber keep my RH at bay.  I test my blood sugar when I feel like I'm about to pass out.  It's usually in the 30's and I feel like death.

Passing out is not fun.  It's happened to me in public and non educated people try to give me sugar thinking I'm diabetic.  LOL

Hope you get to feeling better! Try to avoid sugar as it just makes it worse.

Could also be some electrolyte imbalance with this heat. Isn't there a sugar free Gator Aid?

Have another protein shake when you get in from walking and keep peanut butter crackers on hand too. I hope you feel better.

I am going to try both suggestions and see what works. I felt better after I drank some water, took my vitamins and 15 min later ( I know should have waited) ate some chili. I will get some G2 and make sure I bring it with me.

Powerade zero is good to drink.  I have noticed that my stomach hurts sometimes when I am in extreme heat....I really think we need more hydration sometimes.  Would try that next time and see if the dizzys go away.  Powerade zero is sugar free....I drank it pretty often after surgery.....like orange and lemon lime flavors....pretty cheap....like 80 cents a bottle at walmart.

Hope you feel better soon!

Well, that certainly isn't a good reward for exercising.  Hope you can find a cure so it doesn't happen again.

I also have occasional dizziness and do find that Powerade Zero helps.  I like the flavor of the blue one the best.  On a regular day I cut it with water, and drink less than half strength.   But on hot days (my boys are swimmers) when I spend lots of time on the pool deck, I go full strength and pump up the volume that I consume.

I do check my blood sugar when I'm feeling dizzy or low.  I've never been diabetic but wondered if the lowness that I was feeling was from my sugar levels.  The staff nurse at my church had glucose meters that were given to her by pharmacutical companies. She gave one to me, it's easy to use and came with test strips.  It's something to consider, so that you could evaluate the reason for the dizziness.

I think I might recommend some food before a 5 mile walk. Also, you migh think about carrying some water or powerade zero with you, so that you can hydrate while you are walking. A snack might be helpful, if you are susceptible to reactive hypoglycemia. I always carry water with me, when I am walking or exercising. It is easier to stay hydrated, if you keep up with the drinking, rather than, trying to play catch up. All of this is especially true, during hot weather. Fluid is critical. JMHO.

Thank you everyone, I will be checking my sugar if I feel it again, i was diabetic prior to surgery so I do have my meter still. My DH also gave me his old camel back and I will fill it before I set out on a journey like that again and just in case I will have more than a protein coffee before I leave, im thinking maybe 4 peanut butter crackers. Thank you so much everyone.

My daughter and I were just discussing this yesterday.  I was helping her out in the garden and was getting dizzy when I stood up.  She was too.  Before starting work I had drank 16 oz of an iced coffee, so had she and drank as we worked.  We took a break and came inside and loaded up on ice tea and ate a hot dog (mine without bun).  We went back outside and commented on how  much better we both felt and weren't dizzy anymore.

I thought I was pretty hydrated before we went out, but I guess not.
