Article on WLS and bone fractures
Hmmm...I wonder if this news will ever reach the ears of those surgeons who still tell their patients to take 2 Flintstones and TUMS. They can't seem to get over their fear of vitamin D, or even know that it's dry D3 we need and not prescription oil based D2. {sigh}
Good catch finding the article, Cindy.

Knowing what WE know, doesn't surprise me. Let's hope more study is done and they can determine if it is folks not doing what we know they need to do, ie take their vits/mins or what. Also interesting that sedantary folks had more problems. We know that exercise helps bone strengh.
There was a discussion on NPR recently about calcium and the fact that we, ladies of the general public, not specifically WLS, were taking more than necessary. The study showed that 700mg instead of the usually recommended 1200-1500 did the job. Of course that doesn't take malabsorption in to case. A bone surgeon was interviewed and he said he wasn't changing his recommendation because of the study. He still wanted his patients and wife on the higher dose.
