Left side pain ?

I'm sorry to be whining once again.

I've had pain in my left side since the surgery. Duh I had a drain and a large 3" incision on that side. Well, aside from the obvious pain, I keep getting this sharp, grabbing pain, almost like an internal charlie horse. When it hits, it takes my breath away and I can't walk or talk. It sounds melodramatic, but it's debilitating. As soon as I can sit, it is instantly relieved. I had thought it was my drain, poking around at things in there, getting irritted when I'd walk around. But now the drain is out and not only is the pain the same, it's happening more frequently. Before it was only after I'd been walking around for a while. Now it is every single time I walk, even just to the bathroom.

Since I'd assumed it was the drain, I didn't ask the doc about it, so I have no idea what is causing this pain. If I knew what it was from or how to prevent it, maybe I could deal with it better. As it is, all I can do is cry and try to breathe through it.

Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?

And yes, I will gladly accept the award for the wimpiest post-op.

I'm thinking you're healing on the inside and things are pulling as they heal. I would get sharp twinges but a friend of mine that had the DS described her pain just as you have. Hang tough and whine if you need to.

It could be gas, it could be healing, but it could be something your doctor can do something about. But I would not hesitate to call your surgeon. He would want to know about acute pain. There is always someone on call if the pain is too much.

I know this has been a bumpy ride so far, Kelly, but it will get better.

I hope you feel better soon!

I had pain in the same area too.  My doc said it was the biggest incision and he had to slip in an internal stitch to stabilize things so it was sorer than the other incision locations.  Moving around pulled the stitch and made it sore.

Hope you feel better soon.  It took a week or so for me.

I had this and still do occasionally......I figure there was a lot done in there so just cause we are healing on the outside does not mean there isn't more time needed for the insides.  Call your surgeon though if concerned, especially since it is worse since your rain came out and not better!  Mine was much better post drain.

Good luck!

Yes thats where  most of the stitches are  .   The way to get  RID of it  is twofold ...  breathe  .. really  try to  PUSH  BREATHE that little  thingy  they gave U ..do it every  twenty minutes .. YES it really  takes the pain away !!

remember to do it and do it as long and as hardas U can ....  and do it a half hour or fifteen minutes later  ....

it stretches Ur lungs   and gets U ready for .. WALKING  !!!

which is the OTHER  thing that really helps

I did laps  around my garden in my hospital gown ..

wore  a path into the parquet floor
( my faithful litle kity  did every single step  with me too  )   .. every hour on the hour ...

it REALLY  helps with the pain and  makes U almost sickeningly healthy  ridiculously fast ...

I sure hope you feel better!  I am pre-Ds, but I had a sharp pain when I walked after my second c-section and it would make me cry too!  The Dr. said she thought that when I got stitched up, a nerve got stiched and said the pain would get better as the disolvable stiches disolved and released the nerves.  It slowly got better and went away.
