Hey Gina, long time since I've been on - I know (I just got PCS'ed back to the States - Sweet Home Alabama- WOOHOO!). for some reason, I can't PM you ... I was going to ask since you are the Queen LW DS'er and watch that board if you knew of some of the other reasons you've seen for people having to get revisions from RNY to DS... (I'm asking not because of weight regain - I'm still normal..but because I am having BAD ulcers that meds aren't seeming to help, too big of a stoma- doc intentionally made it bigger thinking it would close but it's just gotten bigger- I've had to water load for three years now and I'm being told that's not normal... I thought I was doing GOOD to drink 4+ liters of water a day after the first year!, and hypoglycemia...like pass out on the floor kind - they tell me that those are some of the reasons that "normal BMI" people get the revision over to DS - is there anything else I should be on the lookout for in that department? I've got an appt w/ my PCP on Friday to talk to him about getting a referral back to a bariatric specialist.

Sorry to bother you, but you are the first person that comes to mind with anything DS'ing Thanks!
Cassandra

Hey, Sweetie!   I was just  thinking about you over the weekend. lol

You've got some pretty compelling issues. Are you having any diabetic issues that you know of? If you have some time to go and read on www.DSfacts.com it might give you some ideas.  Where are you now? Still overseas?

There's a list of DS surgeons but not a list of those that can do RNY to DS revisions. Some of the ones I know off the top of my head are Dr K  and Dr Rabkin in Calif, Dr Elariny in DC and there's a couple in NY. I'll have to find out and let you know. Not all DS surgeons can do revisions.

Oh my goodness! I never thought to look for specific complications but i found on WebMD The bypassed stomach may enlarge, resulting in hiccups and bloating.

Don't get my husband started on my hiccups! But check out this photo and tell me what you think (now remember, I had a tummy tuck where you can see my ab muscles but this is what it looks like whenever I eat more than like 10g of carbs...the hubby and kid have nicknamed "it" "Jr")

LOL...tell me what you think....

Yeah, looks like Jr is about to pop. If you can't get insurance to approve a revision are you prepared to go out of country and self pay?

If it was just me, heck ya...but my husband wouldn't go for it. Plus we're now under Tricare but I can always enroll in FEHB with no preexisting condition clause in November if i have to...

You might have to. Tricare doesn't cover the DS unless it's done at a military treatment facility and the only one that I know of that has a DS surgeon is Madigan in WA state.

There's no MTF w/ a surgical unit here so all surgeries are referred off-post through network providers and two local providers do perform DS but i know one does NOT do the revisions from RNY to DS...not sure about the other though... although since we're Prime I could get a referal to any network provider in the South regioun they tell me... guess I'll just have to wait until I see the doc on Friday, but at least I know I'm not totally insane for thinking something is wrong...

I don't think there are any DS surgeons in Alabama. The good ones are well know in our community. Please be careful of the surgeons in your area. If they aren't on www.DSFacts.com I wouldn't trust them.
