New adventure in July!
Have to say I am VERY nervous, my family and I love the beach and everything that has to do with it. Both our kids have always wanted to scuba dive. We are doing a family trip to Hawaii, both of them have gone when they were very little. My self I have been there twice once with kids, once without. Before kids my husband and I went out for my first dive. He is certified, and since I wasn't I had to go through the "learning" part on the boat. I was ready, ONLY because I read the book before our trip. So the instructor thought she will be a easy one, and even promised I could dive with my husband....little did he know water and I don't mix!!!! So when I hit the water I freaked out. One diver instructor said give the lady her $$ back, we aren't dealing with her. The other young guy said we have never given money back she is going. (this was at my heavy weight back then) The wet suit didn't even fit me right...it was horrible. But I have to say the young guy, did what he said..walked me through EVERY step, and took me to the bottom. I saw the most beautiful mama turtle and was able to ride on her, at his push...Well, now that the kids are old enough to dive...my husband signed the 3 of us for dive school, we will all 3 be certified by the end of JULY! And ready to dive without having the instructors when we go to Hawaii. I am so scared....but I keep telling myself...part of it back then was my size. I was so embarrassed to be in a suit, besides being in the water on top it. I keep telling my self I can do this.....I best get myself to the pool to practice treading water for 10 mim, and swimming 200 yards non stop! Pool swimming is different for me, I don't have the scare as much knowing there is a bottom...the ocean is a whole other ball game! Wish me luck!
Does anyone have any helpful hints to get me though this??!

Just showing some support!
Sounds like you have a good plan. Learning to swim well will alleviate some of the fear of the water and make you stronger.
Getting certified before you go will alleviate the wet suit fear ( you will be looking hot with your tiny self in your wet suit now!) And just try to focus on the fun you will have with your family and being able to see these incredible sea creatures.
Good luck!

Just know that panicking when you hit the water in a wet suit is actually very common. Our chests tighten up, which makes us feel like we can't breath, which induces the panic.
So knowing it's common and what causes it, it's pretty easy to treat. Just stay still in the water and breath deeply until you feel calmer and you should be fine ... just like you were fine last time once the instructor calmed you.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It really helps to have friends on your side and to help push me though things...
I love that my kids are so happy, my daughter brought tears to my eyes. "see mom. you being the new you, can help you be the person you want to be, you can do things you would of said NO Way to...before". She is one wise 13 yr old isn't she?! I love that my kids are both proud of me and want me to experience these things. It makes me, as scared as I am want to do this with them and for me, to get it through my head I can do it!
Heading to get our study books on Monday so we can all work together on the book reading...and they thought they were out of school for the summer..., not until they help teach me so we know everything there is to know!
