RNY and a drain

I had my RNY in April.  I had a drain, but they took it out the day I left the hospital.  I would think if you were going to have one the doctor would of mentioned it.  The drain is a pain in the ass, but they put it there to help drain all the fluids off your abdomen.  Honestly, the drain was the worst part of my hospital experience.  I could not get comfortable at all.  When they took it out, I didn't have the pain anymore.  I have no idea how they get all of that thing in there to begin with.  Anyway, if you do end up with one remember it is only temporary.  It serves a purpose even though it does suck.

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow!  You'll do great.  Just think it's the beginning of the rest of your life.  I count my sugery date as my 2nd birthday.  It was the day that I made the decision to live and to live my life to it's fullest.

I had RNY and a drain for a week. Ask your doc when he peeks in on you before surgery tomorrow. I think it all depends on what happens during the surgery. My brother used the same surgeon and surgery as me and he didn't have a drain.

Good luck and welcome to the losers bench!! Your new life starts tomorrow!!

Hope your surgery went fine.  I did have a drain and it was removed in the hospital  the day I went home.
