When will my period stop?!?!
Hey ladies, sorry if this is a little blunt and in your face but I couldn't really find a polite way around it. I started bleeding 2 days into my 10 day liquid diet, nurse said it was because the fat was being converted into estrogen to get out of my body. I have been bleeding heavy ever since then. I am now almost 1 week post-op and good grief, there's no sign of letting up. My periods have always been very light and only last a couple days so this is a shock to me.
Anyone have the same experience? When did it finally let up? I have my one week checkup with my surgeon tomorrow, but he's never had the surgery, and is a boy. So in this case, I'd rather hear from my ladies!! lol Thanks

No advice to offer, But I can tell you that I am 15 mo out and I am still irregular. I get my cycle about every 2 weeks. I was put on the pill to control it but it hasen't helped. I am now in the process of getting an IUD to see if that helps. It makes me crazy because I never know when It will come. I hope others can chime in with some advice.
Hope you arr otherwise feeling well.

Sorry Rebecca that I don't have any suggestions or help on this one. Maybe you should call the surgeon's nurse, she may have some idea what you should expect.
Sheri~~I love, love, love my IUD. I got the Merina five years ago and am due for a replacement later next month. After about the second month I stopped having periods all together and haven't had anything for the last five years! I don't really even bloat up or all the other fun stuff that comes with TOM!

I wish I had an answer for you. I'm 6 weeks out and mine have been absolutely crazy since surgery. I had one the week before surgery which was normal. Then 1 week after surgery I started and was on it for 2 weeks. Then I went 2 1/2 weeks without one and now I've been on it again for 2 weeks. It's driving me crazy. I called my OBGYN who said it is related to all the estrogen being released as we lose fat. I go for another Depo shot next month which will hopefully regulate me again. If they are really bothering you I would see about an IUD.
My surgeon said it was normal as well. Your surgeon may be a boy, but I'm sure he's dealt with patients that have had similar experiences. According to him it is supposed to get better after 2-3 months post-op. I can't wait!

I don't know but it sounds scarey to me .
On one hand getting rid of menstrual blood is cleansing and gets rid of a lot of toxins .. on the other periods that wont stop / are overlong /overpainful are a symptom ( im sure U know this already ) of early stage cervical cancer , fibroids ,.. and/or a real warning sign of other possible serious issues with the girl parts ...
this is NOT something I would ignore or minimize ( and I HATE saying this being utterly loathe to subject MYSELF to the stirrups too ) ...
The part I have heard being NORMAL associated with WLS is that we get our periods when we get the surgery ( happened to me like clockwork) ... and that we get madly FERTILE afterwards .
NOTHING about bleeding forever
Generally when the body acts like that its trying on its own to clear a problem ... at least this is my conclusion based on the experiences of my grrlfriends in the past .
Dont mean to frighten U but its a lot more serious to find out U have a problem six months or a year from now when its further advanced .. isn't it better to rule it out now ?

I posted this dear Rebecca and then i realized Ure only a week post ! So the bleeding has only gone on for less than a month ... and right around your surgery date .
It MIGHT be just fine .
Dont worry about ANYTHING until Ur pouchie is healed ( 8 weeks post ) .. is my advice ( I left the other post up there really for OTHER people who might be in a similar boat )
Probably it will stop long before then .
If it doesnt .. then i would schedule a check up and TELL the GYN's office up front the issue .. ( personally i might even go get it done at a good diagnosing oncologists office ...and skip the preliminaries and referrals to get there .. )
What U dont need is a dozen invasive exams and a dozen referrals .. just go to the person with the maximal know- how ( and access to advanced testing ) in the FIRST place .... ( if Ur insurance allows it of course ) .
Ull get a hormonal profile which will really allow them and U to see whats presenting hormonally , a blood test to see if cancer is active at any level ..maybe get one detailed and minimally cumulatively loaded xray or detailed mri which will show which organ is swollen and or sitting abnormally perhaps .. ( our weight frequently causes prolapsing of the uterus ) .
Ull immediately be able thanks to these and other tests rule a lot of things out a NUT and even regular GYN wont ... and Ull have a much better idea whats really going on and ALL the possible options for treatment ( including Ur prognosis if U do nothing at all) .
Personally I prefer VASTLY to be well informed and up to date and precisely diagnosed .. and then I may NOT act at all .. but at least i know what is likely to happen , what my options are and what I will probably choose if things dont improve on their own...
