Protien Shakes! Help!,,

So I am pre-op, but have been trying to really get shakes in now. I bought isopure vanilla, and was good on it for about a week. But now it makes me want to hurl. I guess my question is, how do you mix your protien powders, and which ones. Do you mix the sweet ones with just milk, blend them up with other stuff, or just drink the nector ones with water or crystal light? Any insight would be really appreciated.

I do the Nectar ones with Crystal Light.  The only flavors I like of the Nectar are Fuzzy Navel, Lemonade and Cherry.  I do like the Nectar Sweets Chocolate Truffle which I mix with some Soy Milk.

I couldn't stand IsoPure at all.  My suggestion would be to go to www.vitalady.com and try all the flavors you think you might like.  She has samples of so many proteins.  Another favorite of mine is the BSN Lean Dessert Cinnamon Roll.  I mix it with soy milk, pumpkin, cinnamon and some pumpkin pie spice.  It reminds me of a cold chai latte.

Here are a couple of sites.  If you do a search you will find many yummy protein drink recipes.  On Eggface you will also find a lot of protein ice cream recipes.  I bought my ice cream maker and I am waiting for the weather to warm up.

Thanks for the Ideas. I Plan on buying lots of samples. I think I have enough in my cart to order tomorrow to get me through a month.

The "secret" to great shakes is to mix them up and not use the same ones every day. You can fall in love with one flavor (such as the matrix mint cookie) and then be sick of it after drinking only that flavor for a few weeks. Variety helps. Not everyone runs into this but most of us do, and it sounds like you are

The best invention for shakes is the sugar free syrups, you can create just about any flavor you want and have a lot of fun doing it

I mix all of my shakes with plain old water. If I'm blending I might add some milk or cream. I just recently started adding in cottage cheese to make it thicker, SF FF pudding mix also helps with this. Lots of ice to make it more like ice cream

I'm a freak, I LOVE my shakes, hopefully you will at least like them. below are some sample sites. Some are vitamins and some are protein, use whatever you like, it's just a list a friend of mine and I have compiled over the past year.

Good luck!

I am a bit weird in that I have one protein shake I do, and that's it. I hated trying to shake the powder up well enough to get it mixed, and blending it put so much air into it that I couldn't drink it. After 700000000 people recommended Premier Protein chocolate shakes, I got them, and I'm a big fan. 30 grams of protein, I think 5 carbs and 1 sugar. Right now I drink 2 a day since I've just started solid food, but eventually I should be doing one a day. They're ready to drink, which is a lifesaver for me. I can grab it and leave for work without having to mix or measure anything.

There has been an issue with them being too thick depending on what box you get. I had a box with a date in April that was fine. Bought some with dates in March - too thick. Dates in May - too thick. I finally ended up driving 25 miles to the next closest Coscto and bought 5 cases because they weren't too thick. It's a bit weird, but to me the RTD shakes are worth it. Just open the box before you buy and shake one of them. If you can't hear anything, it's too thick.

Just remember, your tastes will change postop.
So get your recipes ready, and try all the tricks! For me, after a couple months, the protein drinks got easier, now I just mix with lactose free skim (became lactose intolerant postop), coffee, tea or water. Crystal light, sugar free jello and sugar pudding are good to use to change up flavor and texture. I also used sugar free flavorings from torani.
I also used plain protein powder from unjury to mix in soups and broths, because at first I needed to change up from all the sweetness.
Good luck and dont forget to get your vites lined up too!

I would not buy a 'bunch" of anything right now..your taste will change after your surgery..something you might like now you might hate right after surgery...My favorite is the nectar sweets..I like to mix it with coffee takes the "sweet" level down but still taste good..I also used unjury right after surgery..not the best flavor in my opinion but it did the job..also mixed that with coffee...my hubby mixed his with milk, I hate the taste of milk and now since surgery im a little lactose intolerant so I don't do that personally....now im drinking a protein drink from Costco if you have one..Its a chocolate flavor and I mix it with coffee, pretty goodd..Sometimes I will mix the vanilla unjury with water and a packet of orange crystal light..taste like a cremecycle..probably would be even better with milk if you like milk..
