That just 2 - TWO - protein drinks a day is NOT enough.

I went from 7.1 last fall to 6.5 this time.

Now - my ferritin is definitely in the tank 7 from 29 last fall my own fault, I don't take my iron.  My iron is within normal.. but..

My ALT/AST surprisingly are either within normal or really close - whodathunk?

B12 is 1412 - Yea me!!

My cholesterol is climbing... I found that interesting.  Its at 172 - still normal but I see the upswing consistently happening.

Now - here's what ****** me off - they DIDN'T TEST D!! I specifically asked the lab tech if D was on the order and she said YES.  So, I may be calling the Dr's office and asking for an order for D and A.  It seems what the Dr's office orders is just the bare miniumum.

My Thiamin and K are still pending.  I'll keep on top of them until I get those results.

Moral of the story:  Even when you're closing in on 3 years out - you STILL MALABSORB YOUR VITAMINS AND NUTRIENTS!!  Don't get lax.  I can only imagine where I'd be if I only took a multi a day - heaven forbid!!

So - on the radar - I MUST supplement with another protein drink.  Being only .1 higher than the minimum is NOT acceptable.  I HAVE to start taking my Proefferin.  I have it - not taking it is just pure laziness.

Gina - what did I miss?

I think I'm due to have my labs drawn again.  I haven't slacked on my Protein drinks but I'm constantly forgetting to take my vitamins.

I'm going to take them right now!!!!!

Do you have albumin and prealbumin by any chance? If your protein is in the 6's but your albumin is in the 4's, you may still be doing ok.

Order some Proferrin if you can't take Tender iron. What was your iron serum level? If your other markers are low, you might want to ask about getting an infusion. 7 ferritin is awfully low.

Yeah, get your D3 and A. What was your calcium and PTH? If they do D3 and didn't do PTH, you might as well have them test calcium, D3 and PTH.

What was your potassium and the range listed on your labs?

Zinc?

Selenium?

Albumin was 4.2 - no Prealbumin

I have Proferrin... I'm just lazy.

Iron was 76 - on a scale of 39-167.

calcium was 9.2 and PTH was 38 on a scale of 10-65.

Potassium was 4.4 - range is 3.0-5.4

Crap - no selenium this time either.  Add that to the list...

No zinc - add that one too.  I've been supplementing zinc so I'm curious about that.

So my list is:

A
D
Selenium
Zinc

Your A was pretty low last time. I hope you can get it checked.

Split that Proferrin into 2 pieces and start taking them even if you do have to get an infusion. Carbonyl iron (Vitalady's Tender capsules) plus Profferin really works for me.

I supplement 25K of Vit A a day. I believe I was taking 10K before, then upped it to 25K when it was low.

Ok - told you I'm lazy - I already have the entire bottle of Proferrin split in two...

Who do I talk to about an infusion since my surgeon is in VA?  My PCP?

Your PCP might refer you to a hematologist but start there. A hematologist will not understand totally about your malabsorption but try to explain that you don't absorb ferrous iron the way normal people do. Your best oral irons are carbonyl and heme iron.

Gina - do you think my low Hematology numbers are a result of the low Iron and Ferritin?
