Had my endoscopy this morning.......I definitely have ulcers
My scope this morning went okay. I don't remember any of it thankfully. He said he found 4 marginal ulcers. None
I did do a course of steroids for bronchitis a few weeks ago. Would that of caused them? I didn't even think about it when I was on them. I got them from my PCP. I was given 2 shots and then on Prednisone for a week.
I'm hoping when I go back in 6 weeks that they are healing. I don't want more surgery. He said if they don't heal at all he may revise me. He said it would be kind of a hybrid VSG/RNY since they would remove my remnant stomach and remove the part of my pouch that has ulcers in it since they are all in one area.
I'm so thankful for this site. I learned a lot about ulcers while I was waiting for my scope.
If any of you are having pain that is new and you don't know what it is...please do not ignore it. From what I've read ulcers are serious business especially if they start bleeding. So don't write off any pain as "oh I just ate something bad". If it's new or different it never hurts to call the doctor.

did they culture for h-pylori ? If your'e positive i would immediately ask to be prescribed a prev pak ... a three week antibiotic package that will take away Ur stomach acid completely ( it contains prilosec too ) and also kills off this horrible ulcer causing bacteria .
It will give U a chance to heal the ulcers now .. AND seriously lessen the chance of getting more ulcers in the future wether or not U get revised.

They did. They are supposed to call me in something if it is positive. He said he would know by this afternoon or Monday at the latest.
I just wish the Carafate and Protonix were working well enough that I could tell a difference. This hurts worse than I did immeadiately post-op. I can't eat or drink without a lot of pain. Drinking is less painful though so I'm sticking to liquids until the meds make a difference.

I was wondering if you could describe the pain? I started having this pain several weeks ago and it feels like heartburn did when I was pregnant..never had reflux before... was / am wondering if I have ulcer or can I all the sudden develop reflux. (I had an ulcer after RNY the first time, non symptoms that seemed common)...got my pouch revised in March. Thanks. Hope you are the road to recovery ASAP.
The pain is a throbbing deep achy kind of pain it gets a lot worse when I eat or drink. That is when I can't handle it. It does feel like heartburn but times 10. I had reflux horribly when I was pregnant. This is nothing like that. Do they have you on PPI's? I was told that I was supposed to be on them for 3 months post-op but there was a miscommunication and I stopped them after 30 days. If they don't have you on them I'd ask to be put on them. That may help with the pain.
YIKES...That is still a possibility for me. So far all we have checked for are things like gall bladder, and anything else that tthe ultrasound might find. I also had a CT scan without and then with contrast.
Pre-op, I had an endoscopy and mine was clear at the time, not even h pylori. And I have been using a heavy dose of celebrex since 2000. Added a PPI about 5 years ago...
I added the galafate to my regime along with my PPI about 10 days ago.
Waiting to hear what they found on me...should know Tuesday.

I've had CT's with and without contrast and X-rays. The scope was the next step. Pre-op they didn't scope me at all and I wish they would of. They were supposed to test for H. Pylori but somehow I slipped through the cracks. I think it had a lot to do with me having 5 days notice before my surgery.
Have you noticed a difference since hadding the galafate? Are you still on Celebrex? That can cause ulcers as well, but hopefully since you've been on PPI's so long that isn't the case with you.

No, I haven't noticed a difference on the galafate. As for the celebrex, pre-op I was taking 200 mgs per day...after 5 weeks without it at all, when I started back, I started at 50 mgs a day...a greatly reduced amount. I stopped the celebrex when they gave me the galafate (and YES, I can feel it missing, LOL).
IF I have an ulcer it's still real small since I was clean pre-op and had an endoscopy to prove it.
Good luck with yours.
