At the same time, yes, I think I take pretty good care of myself. I get my vitamins and protein daily and keep a stock supply, buying when on sale, that even if I got stuck, I would have a couple of weeks supply. I get in my fluids but have realized in this heat, 64 oz isn't enough. I am getting more like 80+ now. I move my body daily, constantly trying to get stronger.
the one thing I still haven't done is order a medic alert something. After this horse show, that is coming to the top of the list.

Living here in Eastern TN, and in the mountainous part and not down on the plain, we don't see super extreme weather...rain and some wind but tornadoes usually break up before getting here. We are too far in for hurricanes, and no where NEAR a river. so disasters tend to pass us by.

Personally, I don't think I'm getting enough fluids. I try, but I need to add more in the evenings. I'm good with my protein and my vitamins. I recently added another protein drink to my day. I eat dense protein for lunch and dinner. I have my drinks at breakfast and for my afternoon snack.
It isn't always easy keeping my eye on the nutrition ball or figuring out what works for me.

Hope your friend is ok Gina and you hear from her soon.

I do keep adequate protein, vitamins on hand and have a knapsack closeby in case I needed to gather them in a hurry. Being able to obtain what I need for my health in an emergency was a question that popped up from several of my friends when I opted for surgery. If my insurance would have covered anything but the RNY and LapBand, I would have gone a direction that didn't involve malabsorption. But, it is what it is, so I've tried to envision what I would need to have available to keep me taken care of for at least a month, whether it would be here at home or if we had to relocate. I can quickly grab protein bars, canned meats, veggies and fruits if necessary.
I'm not working right now so I don't think far enough ahead to have a 72 hr. kit in the truck, but I *should*.
I believe being prepared for the emergency that may never happen can bring a great deal of peace of mind even if I'm living in a place where natural disasters are minimal.

Ya know - I never really thought of it like this. It doesn't really matter if its a natural disaster or an accident of some kind - like your house burning down with all your supplies in it. Definitely food for thought...
