Always second best

I am so tired of being second best.  I do not need a new job, but I am looking.  I have had 2 internal interviews recently and got neither job.  Ok I can handle that part but it is the part that you did fantastic, Interviewed great, the extent of your answers were in great detail, the decision was difficult...but we chose the other person!!!  Which is basically  what both hiring managers told me.  I have also been told that before.  Do these people know that mental damage they cause when they can not give you a reason for their selection?  I mean really just lie and say the other person WAS better. They have no recommendations for what I could have done differently that would have swayed their decision.  I am tired of being 2nd best.

I have spent my whole life hiding, my fat body out of embarrassment and just when I feel like I am grasping that I have lost over 100 lbs and feel normal, it all comes back. i looked in the mirror this morning and saw that fat girl again.

Sorry for my rambling...I just needed to vent somewhere!  Thanks for listening.

Sheri, I am sorry you are dealing with this...it would help to know the exact reason so you could address it and maybe fix it.

Vent away!

Thanks, Liz.  I know particulars would be good so I can work on it for next time.  It is tough when they tell you you are great, but....

As someone who used to do a lot of hiring, many times it is a gut feeling about who will fit better with the teammuch more than it is about one person's lacks or skills.

Doesn't make it any easier but it may have had nothing to do with you.

Thanks, Price.  I too used to be part of a team of hiring staff and I know how it is.  But like you said it does not make it easier.  My day will come.

This just means that there is  something better for you!  Hold your head high!  It is great that they did say all of those nice things about you!

In this economy, anyone who has a job is very fortunate. With so many unemployed people out there, hiring managers can pick and choose and don't have to give any reasons for who they choose or don't choose. It sucks.

My husband was out of work for a while and he couldn't even get interviews half the time because he was over qualified. It's just such a game to some people and they don't realize the impact their decisions have on others. It's crazy.

Just try to hang in there and be positive. Good things really do come in time. We just have to somehow survive in the meantime. Keep focusing on how great you are and don't let anybody pull you down!

You will find something fabulous and then the people who didn't hire you will be the losers.

Hugs,
