Thank God  MY  Body doesnt gain weight from eating vegetables and fruit  and salads .

Just  to put it out there  . There  are a LOT  of RNYers  complaining (  especially  years out )  of reactive hypoglycemia  .. which is basically quick blood sugarswings  after meals due to  not having a pylorus valve anymore .

The only cure is to eat little  and often...  basically all day grazing .   And to eat a  diet high in  carbs .

Guess what .. I suspect fat free  may be  the ONLY way to  eat  with that condition and  successfully maintain  the weight loss.

Ava, I've had Reactive Hypoglycemia for 20+ years, eating carbs is the fastest way to make it worse. You are right about the small, frequest meals but the BEST way to deal with it is protein first, fats second, and carbs last. Carbs cause a fast rise and a fast crash again.

My having RH is the reason I did not get the RNY, I knew I had it already and so no reason to make it worse.

Low carb is the best way to handle RH.

I was worried about the RH too.  My dr thinks I have that and it is a yucky feeling!  I notice it after eating carbs!  Doesn't your body need some fat.  If you only absorb 20% of fat and you geat really low fat, what happens?  Do you have dry skin, hair etc.  What if I got pregnant in a few years after DS?  A baby has to have fat for brain development.  I guess I could ask the DR. about that...

Exactly, Mel, your body does need fat as long as it's the good kinds, olive oil is a real biggie.

For a DS'er fat is our friend Since we only absorb 20% then we have to have lots of it to equal what someone without WLS would need daily, which is about 30 grams. So given that a normal person needs around 30 grams, we can have well over 100 and still be fine. 20% of 100 is only 20 grams.

Keep asking questions!

Liz
