Friday's Just For Fun post for Happy_Camper

We stayed near Myrtle Beach during my childhood for those week vacations. I remember one year being at Pawley's Island and one year we were just south of Myrtle Beach. One year we stayed north of Myrtle Beach.

My grandparents went with us and so did the lady who was our "maid" back then. She was ore of a mother than my Mother cause my Mother decided she wanted to work so we had someone raise us.

That area was so nice back in the late '50s. What was that seafood mecca north of Myrtle? Calabash!   

Calabash is just across the NC/SC line in NC, Brunswick County to be exact. When we lived in NC from 2007-2009, we lived at the OTHER end of Brunswick County just across the river from Wilmington, NC. The seafood in that area is incredible, esp the Shrimp & Grits. It actually started as a Charleston recipe but the entire coast there has embraced it.

1. What is your favorite child hood memory?  The camping trips we would take each summer when I was growing up.  My dad would save his 2 weeks of vacation and we would go camping every year somewhere different.  I met so many people and had a wonderful time.

2. What is your favorite thing to do during the summer?  We are going to the beach in 2 weeks and I can't wait.  I love going to the beach and we haven't been in 2-3 years.

3. Victories/Obstacles this past week? Working 9-8 3 nights this week and getting stressed - wanting to eat sweets/carbs.....

1. What is your favorite child hood memory?

Wow , scary that there are so few . One of the most memorable is that I took outa book from the library about a kid who ran away and lived in a hollowed out oak tree over two winters trapping squirrels to eat with snares , making flour out of acorns and baking bread , and just barely surviving . I thought about ATTEMPTING this almost every day for YEARS as my Father tortured me every day nearly to my breaking point .. I used to practice stalking and catching bullfrogs silently in the woods .. ( was pretty good at it too) ( not at the killing and actual roasting and eating part though .. couldnt ever get myself to do that ) . I even tried to break acorns open with a nutcracker but my hands weren't strong enough .. and I made flour with reeds ...a la the indians ... ..

MY FAVORITE memory I think is when I finally escaped - going to New York on the bus .. just the smell of New York when that bu**** the Bronx ... oh Im finally home...

2. What is your favorite thing to do during the summer?

Garden. Sail . Hike . Rollerblade .


3. Victories/Obstacles this past week?

Waiting for the commitment letter ( or the rejection letter ) on this darn mortgage . Feeling my ANGER at my darn husband for screwing it all up and nullifying all my hard work with one late payment . Wondering how he could have sat there for thirty whole days as his Father and I agonized over this mortgage on his couch and not told us he hadnt paid the mortgage - wther it was deliberate sabotage or what .

Real anger that he proposed to me with this house KNOWING that he didnt BEGIN to have the money to pay for it and only with his Fathers money is it even POSSIBLE .. and then he DELIBERATELY screws it up now ...

I feel a lot of anger at myslef for neglecting my own goals neglecting my own education etc this year for this doomedproject based on false promises and not seing through this guy's cynicism .

And pissed that I wil probably have to seek a divorce .
