Good Morning. Anyone a black or green belt?

So, the boss asked me to sign up for green belt training with the new black belt he's hiring. {sigh}  I told him I would be happy to. {lying through my teeth}  I study and analyze the manpower needed for bureaucracies...not sure 6 Sigma will help me do a better job at that since bureaucrats rarely produce anything but policy and pass money down to the next level. Will it help us design better process flows? I have my doubts. Anyway, I'll do it. It's a buzz phrase the gov't is crazy about right now. Job security, right?

I guess this is another example of jumping through hoops, and I know just about all of us have experience with that! What WLS hoops did you have to jump through for insurance approval and your surgeon's practice?

It's Friday, y'all! Have a great day.

2)  psych eval
3)  WL history documentation (I guess I proved I'd already tried everything...didn't have to do a 6-month diet)

One of my friend who is the the same business as I am was told the other day that small businesses like ours were going to go under. That we would have to join together to stay afloat with all the changes going down. Only problem is the reason I am in business for myself is that I have extremely high standards and not many folks meet those standards. I can't see accepting someone elses questionable business practices. Life will be interesting over the next few years.

Price,
Keep your high standards no matter what. They may be what is exactly what is needed to keepp your business going, and not all small businesses will go under. If you have a dedicated client base and they are happy, word of mouth is the BEST advertisement EVER. Hang in there.

I had to have my 5 yr history (not hard to get)
EKG
Nutrition approval
Psyche approval (this was the biggest hogwash ever, I did no talking at all but I learned the life history of the psychologist and in the end she tells me, you ever thought about being a counselor, you listen so well and you are so easy to talk to...LOL)
And that was it, lab work proved my cholesterol and everything else. It was WAY too easy to get it all accomplished....

Yes, I'm a green belt... just look at it as the new "buzz" word of the decade and new process management of the month club.

See if you'll be learning Minitab- that's the computer tool that's used to create all the charts, graphs, etc.  You're more math friendly than I am, and I struggled with some of that.

WLS hoops?  I didn't - I had probably the easiest experience ever with it.  Never stepped foot in the door, talked to the insurance lady, she called it into the insurance and I was approved 2 1/2 hours later.  THEN - I jumped through the hoops to meet all the tests within a 3 week timeframe.  Luckily my PCP was on board with me and his staff helped tremendously.

Is Minitab proprietary software? How can I get a preview?

I think so.  We were given it at our LSS training.  I think they will give you a computerized tool to work with... not sure how you can preview it...  I didn't find it intuitive.  You actually track your data in excel, then copy/paste it into the worksheets and create the different graphs, tables, etc from there.

I think I only had mini hoops compared to some.

Went to a info meeting at the surgeon's office on Dec. 22nd and had the surgery less than three months later.  It has been a whirlwind of an adventure.....

Initial appt with surgeon
Sleep study--positive for postional apnea
Psych eval and Nut appointment one day
Bloodwork , ultrasound and EKG one day
Two pre-op support groups...one was during a blizzard and I was the only one that showed up so I got to ask LOTS of questions!!

File submitted to BCBS on a Friday and approval was the next Monday. Surgery was two weeks later---did those two weeks of liquids only.

Not a 6 Sigma belt, but I have a Tang Su Do red belt (the one right below black).  I see it as a fad like Quality Circles, Total Quality Management, Management by Objectives, etc....  Good concepts, but another fad.  I'm very cynical on this one.  :-)

I didn't feel like there were hoops, but I guess there were.
1. Behavior Modification (3 months checking in with the doctor and NUT)
2. Psych eval
3. Pay my insurance deductible up front.  (This scared the crap out of me.  It seemed like a lot of money.  Once they billed my secondary insurance I got all but $25 back.  It would have been worth it even if I didn't get the money back!)

I'm glad I had to wait a few months.  It gave me time to find the lightweights and educate myself.

Why the military falls for these fads, I'll never know. bureaucrats still do pretty much the same things they've always done, they just do them a little differently. I haven't seen any evidence that introducing new enterprise systems have reduced workload at all, the opposite may be truer, requests for more info increases the volume of work, and longer user level processing times via cumbersome systems plus multiple levels of reviewers reduces efficiency. You don't need a black belt to figure this stuff out.
