Looking for people I can call on for questions next week, please.
My surgery is on Monday 5/23/11, and I'm looking for people I can turn to for questions. I plan on going to Florida by train on 6/11/11. Does this seem feasible to anyone?? It's a trip I really need to take. I figure I can get up and walk around, and I'm going at night so hopefully I will sleep.
I'm sure I will have lots more questions afterwards as well.
Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you so much.

Carolyn,
So happy for you! I am a newbie too...just 9 weeks out. Honestly, after about the third day (when the gas pains finally went away) I felt AWESOME. I was worried about traveling for work, picking up my daughter from school, etc. but all was good and I am sure your surgery will be too.
Let us know if you have any questions. This board was a life-saver for me, both before and after surgery.

Welcome to LightWeights Carolyn!! I was never so happy as I was when I was referred over here and was able to get away from the war zone of the Main Forum. LOL!!! You're definitely in the right place!
Relax and let your doctors & nurses take over... it'll go great! Walk a lot, stretch your arms out, do every little nonpainful thing you can to work your muscles so that the CO2 gas gets worked out of your system quickly. That's honestly the biggest complaint about having any surgery that has no complications.
Making sure to take your proteins, vitamins, and pureed foods with you for your trip is going to be your biggest headache. Try to get everything set up before surgery. You might be best off if you stick with powdered, liquid, or chewable vitamins & calcium for a while. B-12 is cheaply found in sublingual dots. That'll get you through the healing stage.
Little containers of unsweetened applesauce (the berry flavored are tasty) don't have to be refrigerated. Boxes of creamed soups don't either, until they are opened. Protein powders to mix with water can be purchased in single serving packets, and if you hurry you'll have them before you leave. Or take a container of protein powder with you. It's crucial not to let your trip interrupt the post-op instructionson what you need & may consume. So, think ahead.
Everybody here will help you as much (even more - heh heh) than you need!! Keep coming back and I'm very excited for you!!!
I'm 14 weeks out and have just passed my halfway to goal mark. It's been great!!!
Talk to you soon.

Hi Ruthie!
Thanks so much for all of the great suggestions you made, and all the thought that went into making them!! Unfortunately, my surgery was postponed due to a mix up with medicines I need to be off of fbefore surgery. So, now I don't need to worry about the traveling. Good thing is I can go in peace, and have fun, bad thing is now I wait another month. Oh, well. It's for my benefit and welfare, so I am accepting it and moving on !!
Thanks, again!!

Carolyn, welcome to the LW Board. I look forward to reading about your journey after your surgery!!
I had my surgery 4 hours from where I live and my surgeon wanted me to stop every hour and walk some during my trip home. I would check with my surgeon and make sure he approved of the trip before doing it.
I felt fine by the time I got out of the hospital. I just slept a little more in the afternoon. Everyone is different though.
Take care and keep us posted. Sounds like a really fun trip.
