i feel like... (OT) (long vent)

I feel like i should be done with school, i feel like i should be married (or even have a boyfriend for that matter) i just want to meet a guy who turns into my best friend, then boyfriend, then husband, but i live in a town that is known only for drunk college students so basically that's what i have to choose from. i just feel like i have improved my health and body but i feel like i'm lacking in every other area of my life. i have lost many friends during this process of losing weight and i thought it would find a boyfreind EASY after losing over 10lbs, but i'm just finding that ALL of my friends have slept around (expect me) and sos with their track records i just don't trust them. thanks for listening/reading...

Aww...I'm sorry. Things will get better. You're a smart young lady not to trust and open yourself up to be taken advantage of. Maybe you need to come East and meet my son.  lol  He's just graduated from college and is busy looking for a job in his field. Hang tough, babee, and don't lower your standards.

Thanks Gina, it does get frustraing but like you said I would rather be like this than lowering my standards....and maybe I do need to meet your son haha.

I was almost 42 when I met my dh and I was 43 when we got married...and he is my only spouse. It just happened that I ended up waiting til I was 42 to find who I was suppose to be with. In the meantime, find things to do that are co-ed like gyms, volunteering, etc.

How I found my husband...match.com We were one of the first sets to get married from that site. There are far more options now then when I first landed online. And that's another place to hang out is tech forums or gaming forums, altho the tech boards tend to smarter people.

As far as being done with school...when do you graduate?

Time frames for all of that have certainly changed.  I was a late bride at 24 way back in the early 70's, now it is common for folks to be in their late 20 or later.  I have a bunch of friend's children who are just now starting families and they are in their mid 30's.  Don't feel pushed by the clock. 
School, I thought I was finished after my first masters, then had to go back to get another one. 
Like this journey, life is a journey.  Those who do it well, learn to ride the waves, stay on the pony, , and enjoy the process.

I met my DH online in 2000, I had 3 failed relationships prior to that, one was a marriage that lasted only 6 mo. Take your time hun, it will come when you least expect it. You are smart and beautiful. ( I know what it is like in small town pickins...they suck!) Gina, Good Idea. may be a match made in heaven?????

I agree with everyone else, take your time. When your time and person is ready, you will know. I was in a similar situation. I lived in a place full of men who just wanted sex and nothing more. They didn't want to go to college or do anything for themselves. When I finally said, forget it, I'm going to concentrate on me until I can get out of here, my future husband started college in my town. He thought the women there were petty and couldn't believe what he was seeing. My brother-in-law went to college with him and thought we had a lot in common and introduced us. almost 20 years later we have been married for 18 years and have 2 children. By the way, we left that town together! Just keep working on improving you and your mate will come when you need him. I believe that.

Hi Rebecca, I hope you know that not just anyone is out there waiting to find you ..... Your devoted other will be found and it will be great for you both. I tell my son when he is not dating and is a bit down that to expect it when you least expect it and to just be happy in the moment for if you have the confidence to just be comfortable with yourself then that too is very attractive to most people as well. Chico is a tough town.  Good news is that your guy is out there.  Find things to appreciate about your life today and eventually the rest will follow.  I'm so sorry that your friendships are lacking substance these days.  Good thing that things are not static and will change eventually.  Probably not what you wanted to read.  Things will get better when you least expect it!

 You remind me of my son several years ago.  It took him a little longer to finish college and he wasn't finding dating working well.  I remember one Christmas he felt so bad that he was alone and his brother and sister both had a child.  I told him that I knew that by next Christmas he would be with someone special and I was right.  He got married right after he graduated from college.  His wife also has a degree and couldn't be more perfect for him.  They are the cutest couple and are very compatible.  You never know what is waiting around the corner.
