Totally OT on pets
ARGGGHHH. When will it stop. Little 4-5 week old kitten in the middle of the highway last night at midnight as I was driving home from work. I drove right over the top of it and then flagged down the semi behind me to be sure he didn't squi**** He's scared and kind of cute at the same time. I'll foster him for a semi-local rescue until he's old enough to neuter and then he'll go to a good home.
Why are people so irresponsible with pets? Letting them breed and breed for stupid reasons: ohh, I want my kids to be able to experience the birth (what about when the pups or kittens are born dead or the mama kills one of them), a female dog NEEDS to have a litter before spaying (contrary to that belief, the 6 million pets being euthanized every year in shelters would say different).... it goes on and on.
For gosh sakes people, pass the word on - spay and neuter UNLESS you have an excellent representative of the breed and have proven your dog in multiple venues and have a breed mentor and are willing to be a responsible breeder.
I am so tired of all the dumped dogs and cats. It's disgusting that people keep breeding irresponsibly when so many animals are being killed each day. I think it should be mandatory for anyone breeding a dog or cat to have to spend two weeks in the shelter working in the kill room.
Arggghhh! Don't let me get started on the designer breeds or the people that bought the pup because it was "living in such horrible conditions" - those folks have just sentenced that puppies parents to another year of hell by financing that cruddy backyard breeder or puppymill.
Gals and guys, buy from a reputable breeder if you must have a purebred and if not, shelters and rescues have some GREAT kittens, puppies, and dogs. You guys may or may not know that over 40% of the dogs in shelters are purebred. Just my totally off topic rant for today!

You said it for me. I have a rescue dog sleeping right behind me. She was a stray that I adopted from a humane society. Truly the best pet in the world (for me at least).
I wish everyone would give these dogs a chance, not have to get a designer puppy. She is grateful, loving, and so much fun because she doesn't look like any other dog. She was spayed when I got her or I would have done so myself.
I've always had rescue pets as an adult and they have never let me down in any way. Some of my friends have purchased purebreds and had problems from overbreeding, eye issues, hip dysplasia, etc. RESCUES RULE!!!!

I'm there with you. Working for a rescue group and having had many fosters. One of my colleagues was looking for a puppy to purchase and I couldn't help myself. The frank discussion about puppy mills and euthanasia rates just spilled out. I think they won't be purchasing a puppy anytime soon, but probably not adopting either.
I'm proud of you for stopping to save the kitten.

Jane- I've done the same thing. Found a kitten in the parking lot of the mall, and it was scared to death. I took it home until I found someone to adopt it - which my boss did, but meanwhile I realized it was the "cat from hell" so we called it "Hellcat" - not to my boss of course! It was somewhat feral, but didn't know it at the time and I just KNEW he'd be squished by a car.
My boss had that cat for years and his kids loved it. That's what its all about!

Thank you for rescuing the kitten. I love people who have the biggest hearts for the souls who can't help themselves.
I've had 6 rescue dogs over the past 16 years. At times I've gone without so that I could be sure my animals got their annual vet visits, shots, and flea/tick/heartworm preventative.
I now have 2 designer dogs, Labradoodles, from a breeder who lives down the road from me. Our dog's parents lived in a palatial home with several acres, heated kennels, the best food, excellent vet care, and owners who treated them like the family pets, even tho they were "breeding stock." My breeder will take any dog back if the owner doesn't want it for any reason.
Not all designer dog breeders are cruel nitwits who are only out to make a buck, and not all designer dog owners are idiots who buy odd breeds instead of shelter dogs. We bought labradoodles after extensive research, and they were the correct breed for our family for many reasons. They are our babies, and while they're spoiled, they're also well-trained all the way through Canine Good Citizens and Therapy Dogs. They are very well behaved and live up to the Labradoodle hype.
Possibly you typed in haste with much emotion, without considering how your words might be taken by folks who had similar hearts for animals but simply different viewpoints??
