Good Morning. Why are vitamins so difficult?

I think the issue is that many vitamin deficiencies can't be seen until it's too late. People feel so much better after losing some weight that they can't imagine there is anything wrong with them.

At my support meeting yesterday, we had a guest speaker who tested our anti-oxidant levels. Most people's were in the toilet even the pre-ops. (I think I had the highest.) The surgeon, NUT and guest speaker emphasized that because we eat so little vegetables and fruit that we really need to take our supplements and talked about what anti-oxidants do for you.

But, if you hadn't taken the test, you'd have no idea your anti-oxidants were low and you might not even feel bad or you'd chalk up your 5 colds a year to "that's just the way it is" or "I have small kids at home" and not to "I really need to take my supplements and eat better."

I've started adding omega 3-6-9 swirl to my lunchtime shakes. Have they talked about the omega's? My dietitian doesn't know much about them but I've read on Vitalady's grads board that it's a good idea to take them.

Not so much at that meeting but we have in the past. My surgeon is really into the supplements -- takes a lot himself -- so he talks about it and also keeps up with the latest research for the most part.
