Good Morning. Why are vitamins so difficult?

I do well with my vitamins.  It definitely helps I have them all pre-sorted so I just grab and take.  I'm still looking for a BIG detachable pill container.  The one I have is too small to fit everything in it.

Protein drinks I'm doing better with.  I usually just have a protein coffee in the morning with 2 scoops of protein (from the BIG scoop).  If I miss it, I'll have a protein drink for a snack later in the day.  Now - last weekend I didn't take any protein with me.  It was a conscious thought too.  Saturday was the only day I didn't have a drink, but of course my food was all protein based.  When I got home on Sunday I had a nice, big protein drink and one Friday before I left.

Today I'm on track - double scoop protein coffee and my vits are in.  I still have a multi for later and will take my calcium periodically throughout the day.  That's one thing I'm doing much better on, iron... eh...

Here I am bragging about how good I am with my vitamins.  What do I do today?  Leave them at home, of course.  Just my calcium.  I took the rest before work and will take the second group after work.  I forgot to pre-sort this morning.

I fall off the wagon on the vitamins at least every 3 days. I do good with the 3X's a day multi-vitamin and I like the iron at night, but the calciums SUCK big time. I threw them up last week. I just hate them! But I know I need them as the body will leach the calcium out of my bones (at least that's what our doc said) and you won't hardly ever show a real deficiency in your labs for calcium because your body will rob it from your bones. YUCK.

Anybody have good ideas on better forms of calcium (I'm taking 6 pills a day, calcium citrate petites)?????? By better, I mean smaller or something chewable that won't make me puke (I am not so good on chewables).

Also, I suck at getting my protein in. I hate the shakes and haven't found one I like yet. Have been doing more and more of the jello pudding with protein in it - and have added some LUNA bars, but they are high in carbs. Fish has been a horror for me since the surgery - and I LOVED fish before. I just puke it up anymore. Same with shrimp.

I don't think I'm sucking too bad, but I for sure am not getting 70g a day - more around the 50-60 range.

I have a BA brand calcium that is too tart for me, if you want them I will mail them to you...

I also cant handle protein shakes and have found recently that tuna wont sit with me anymore. I have to do a protein coffee in the morning. GNC brand protein, it is the ONLY one I can tolerate.

Stacey,

You're the bomb! I would have said YES quickly until I looked further down and saw that they offer calcium in the capsules - so I'm going to try that. I just HATE chewables except for the BA iron in grape. I like that one. I will try the GNC brand protein. I have tried about 6 different kinds and just don't do well with any of them. I'm more of a juice type than a milk type so I tried the Snyntrax nectars and didn't even like them.

I"ll have to find something I like because I'm just not doing good enough. If I was a coffee drinker at least I could get that morning boost, but alas, I don't tolerate coffee. Cripes, I sound like a picky person and I tell you girl, I have NEVER been known as a picky eater!!!

I almost always get over 75gr protein daily....and I usually get all my vits :( Where I fall short is my mid-day calcium. I will start reminding myself to take it when I start drinking again after lunch. So glad you mentioned that tip, Price!!

I give myself a b12 injection monthly...I wish they could all be taken that way!!

I switched from the caltrate petites to the capsules from Vitalady.  It is so much easier to take calcium capsules than pills.  I still am inconsistent taking my afternoon doses though.  I put 10 days worth of pills in individual presciption meds containers so I can just throw one in my purse each day (suggestion from a lapband grad),  I also set an alarm on my smartphone to ring at 1 pm each day.  That has upped my compliance.  Protein is from 50 to 80 each day. Since I can't stomach the protein drinks it is hard to get enough without overdoing calories.  I do have a protein coffee each morning to get started though.

Being that I have to learn things the hard way, I know too well the importance of taking my vitamins.
Needless to say I am religious about them now.
I get in at least 130 grams of protein a day.  I enjoy my shakes so it isn't a problem.  When I saw the weight come off and the hunger non existence I didn't need any convincing.
My recent hernia repair went off without a hitch and my incision healed rapidly.  In fact, when I looked at it in the recovery room it was already scabbing over.  By 2 weeks it was so healed I forgot a post op appointment because I forgot I had surgery.  If I ever have plastics I should have no problems.
I had a Dexa Scan last January and it showed osteoporosis but when I saw my doctor last week he went over the results with some other doctors and they concluded that with my numbers it was really osteopenia and didn't need to be treated right now, jus****ched for the time being and of course the calcium and D.
It has been very slow but I have been recovering my health and feel almost normal now.
