Actually realizing a dream

Three and a half years ago I traveled around Nicaragua on a week long women's missionary trip, just over a year ago I went on a building/bible school trip in Nicaragua.

Today I found out I have been accepted for a 3 month long missionary trip to Nicaragua to teach English. I am so excited!!!! Without having WLS and losing all this weight I would never had put my name forward for a position like this. Because I am able to run 5k easily and am currently training for 10k with the hopes of training for a marathon this summer, I feel I have the stamina for what this mission trip will need. Last time we were there we experienced 40 ºC or 104 ºF temperatures with high humidity and I could barely move in that heat. Now I think I'll thrive especially because I am so cold all the time.  I might even imagine I could get around on a bicycle some of the time because I will want to keep up an exercise program down there.

I am so blessed to have this opportunity open up for me. Thank the Lord.

Thanks Joan, my first mission trip was an awesome experience with a lovely bunch of ladies from across Canada. I made some good friends and it really opened my heart to doing more. Once you experience one don't be surprised if you want to do more.

Amazing!! I am so thrilled for you. Not only are you physically able, you have a whole new mindset to share with others. They will be lucky to have you!

You are so right Kelly, I do have a different mindset concerning things I know I can do. I recently took over adminstration for a ladies church facebook page and twitter account because I now feel like I can do it. I can see myself as one of those people who are those "busy people and that is why they are so slim". WLS creates a whole new perspective.

That's Wonderful. I've always wanted to do a medical mission trip. You will have to tell us about your experiences

Thanks Cheryl, there are many opportunities for these types of trips and for various lengths. I found the ten days for the first two trips were good but wanted to really get to know the people better. This will give me the opportunity to really get to know one young lady who is going into the deaconess program that I have had contact with for the last 3 years.

I will be at our church mission center and have internet access every day, so I will be sharing once in a while I'm sure.

Thanks Stacey. When I sweat through the 104 degree weather last time I wondered how I would get through it, but I had my first visit done at my bariatric clinic and I knew there was a new world waiting for me. I'll post pictures once in a while when I am down there since I'll have internet access where I am staying.

How wonderful.  You will be a great assett to them.  And I can relate to the cold all the time.  The thermostat wars continue at my house only this year they are in the opposite direction.
