Hi Amy,

I have what they call a high pressure sleeve which was discovered when I had to have a test called "Manometry" and this measures pressure in the actual sleeve part itself.  I've had 3 bleeding ulcers and the high pressure in the sleeve is now at risk of a rupture so I have no choice now but to have the RNY bypass as it will lower the pressure by bypassing most of what I have left.  I never have had a huge deal of restriction as such but my quantities certainly are a lot smaller than my prior self was having.  Can you actually eat just a normal size meal or is it still a much smaller amount than before?

Cheers from Karin (in Oz)

With the RNY you'll have the advantage of the malabsorption, and quite honestly, I don't see ANY reason why you won't hit the 120's.  I'm 5'3 and my goal weight was 125, I hit 121 and bounced back up to 129.

Be vigilant with your protein, vitamins and fluids - and you'll be a huge success!!

Thanks so much Jody for your reply, I can't even imagine myself ever at 129lbs.  But it would be a nice outcome after all I've been through.

Thanks for the warm welcome, it's so lovely being here.

Welcome to the lightweights board.

Since you already have the stomach part of a DS, why not consider it instead? All they would do then is revise yoour intestional track and give you the malabsorption you need.

Plus you get to keep taking NSAIDS if you need them.

For more info on the DS, check out DSFacts.

And yes, there are lightweights who have the DS. :)

Thanks Liz for the DS links, I'll certainly take a look into DS surgery.  I'm in Australia and I'm not sure though if my surgeon even does DS but I'll look into it for sure.

Welcome Karin!  As Jody stated you should have no problem hitting the 120's if you only have 40lbs to lose.  Just take it slowly and come here often for support and suggestions.  Don't expect a race to your finish line.......I'm sure with all the complications you've had you just want to be healthy......find that place and you're golden!  Good Luck!

I know one person whose lap band was killing her so she revised at goal weight. She knew just taking the band out would mean gaining all her weight back.

Not exactly the same but similar to your case.

Hi MacMadame, I'd love to know more about this person revised at goal. Do you know where I could find out more details?
