Newbie to this board. Lapband to VSG now about to go to RNY.

Hello everyone,

I've had failed Lap band x 2 and now failed VSG and am just waiting for the date from my surgeon to be revised yet again to an RNY Bypass.  The main reason now I have to convert to  bypass is that I have a high pressure sleeve and I have had bleeding ulcers and suffer horrific reflux and vomiting everyday now for a very long time.

The idea for me to have a bypass is scary as all hell but it has come down to quality of life for me now.  I currently weigh approx 73kgs (168.7lbs) and I'm wondering if there are any other of you good people out there who are/were low weight RNY'ers or revised to an RNY?

The doctor tells me that I will probably go on to lose more weight once I've had surgery and my personal goal weight would be approx 65 kgs (144lbs) as that was a comfortable weight for me and hopefully I'll be able to fit back in all my clothes.  I'm only quite short at 5'1"and probably should only weigh 120 something lbs but the low 140's I'd be happy with but right now I just want to feel well and normal again.

Any comments or leads to someone who has or is in a similar situation would be great.

Cheers from Karin (in Oz)

The majority of us are light weights but I am not aware of any being that low before an RNY, that being said, I do not know everyone here or who lurks. I was 198 the day of my surgery (no revisions though) I am down to 132 now and am shorter than you are at 4' 11", welcome to the board, you will find much support here.!

Glad you found us.  Welcome.

Let's hope this one works.  I think Taz was pretty light when she had her last revision.  Hopefully she can help.  And we have at least one other with not your usual revision.

I was 218 when I had my surgery so not very light but I did have a sleeve at the time.
I hope the surgery resolves your problems.

I hope that your upcoming surgey will make your quality of life much better.  Sorry to hear that you have had a rough time of it.  I am a RNY no revision but my weight day of surgery was 194 I am currently in the low 160's and I am 7 weeks out.

Good luck

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome. I'm just feeling scared of more surgery, whatever the surgery. I've just never seen anyone have revision surgery from the 160ish lbs so I'm curious if I will actually reach a goal weight.

Hey ... I'm curious what deters a VSG failure in your case?
I'm at 4 months and I pretty much have no restriction
