Just wanted to say hi
I haven't posted here in forever. I keep forgetting that this forum is here for us lightweights. I just wanted to drop in and say hello. I'm Ashley, 27 from South Carolina. I had my RNY on 4/12/11 and it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. I've had complications along the way, but I'd do it again tomorrow.
Being a lightweight it is hard being on the RNY board sometimes and seeing people have these extraordinary losses. I've lost 22 pounds since the day of my RNY. I'm proud of that because I could of never lost that much without it.
I know as a lightweight that I won't lose as fast as other patients, but what is a reasonable expectation? My surgeon's office considers 2 pounds a week successful. I feel like I should at least be losing 3-4 as long as I'm not in a stall.
Do lightweight**** more stalls? I hit a stall a few days ago, but as soon as I increased my protein it broke. In fact I gained a bit and then lost it in a few days. I'm so bad about weighing daily. I know I shouldn't but I can't help it. I do realistically know that my weight may fluctuate due to water weight, stalling and other factors though. I hope that sense of realism helps me not become too emotional if the scale isn't working in favor.
Sorry for all the questions along with my intro. I hope to become a more frequent participant on this board now that I remember it's here!

Weight loss depends on a lot of things. It may seem like heavier people lose faster but if you look at percentages of weight lost it all works out pretty much the same.
I am terrible at math so I will use an easy number. You want to lose 106 lbs. Let's say 100 lbs. You have lost 22 lbs so you have already lost 22% of your excess weight already, in less then a month. That is an excellent loss. I heard that you should expect to lose about 50% of your excess weight by 6 months out so you are doing great. Of course you won't lose 22% every month. It would be great if you did. It will slow down. One or two pounds a week is great although you may lose more then that.
The weight will come off slower as you get closer to goal. It usually really slows down around 6 months. Stalls are unfortunately to be expected and the best way to deal with them is to not weigh very often but most people don't like that idea :)
I needed to lose 98 lbs total to hit my final goal of 120 lbs and so far I have lost 93 lbs at a little over 9 months out. That is approximately 98% excess weight loss so I am very happy and I am hopeful to reach my goal.
Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much for that explanation. That actually put it in terms that make sense to me. It's so confusing how all of this works sometimes. I know I will hit my goal. I figured it up and if my weight loss averages out to 8.8 pounds a month I will hit goal by 1 year. I can do that! It doesn't seem as overwhelming that way. Obviously, I want to hit goal before then.
Congrats on being so close to your goal. You'll get there before you know it!

Losing 22 pounds since surgery is fantastic! I lost 22 in my 1st month! It is safe to say that your loss is reflective of your BMI. But age etc. will also play a role.
I hit very brief stalls along the way, but trusted this "tool" to do its job (I also panicked quietly a few times). When I became insecure, I walked away from the scale for a handful of days, and was never disappointed when I stepped back on.
Remember, those around you will let you know you are MELTING! And right in front of them too. I "hid" inside my work smock, and avoided alot hoopla for months, but once it was unavoidable, WOW! I can't hide now (Think I had lost 50 pounds before many noticed)!
I went to my 6 month visit last week, and lost 93% of my excess weight (And think I had lost 69% by my 3 month check-up)! Gotta say, it feels good. Will try and post pics here soon.
Sounds like you are doing GREAT! Don't be a stranger now that you remembered us.

Welcome, Ashley! I was told to expect 1-2 pounds per week. I am five months out, and averaging 2 pounds per week. I really slowed down in month 4. I have experienced a few mini-stalls along the way. Everyone has a different rate of loss. In my view, what counts is whether you are adopting healthy eating habits and exercising. The scale will follow.

Welcome back.
Everyone's rate is different. There are LWs who don't stall and those that do. I tend to lose pretty good, then bounce around a little, then go back to losing. I do weigh daily but I realize the bounce is pretty normal, at least for me and don't get upset when I am up instead of down. I track my food on the tracker on this website and post on Miles and Menus so I know I am on track no matter what the scale says. I am very happy with a pound or two a week. Your body has to have time occasionally to recoperate and adjust to your new weight. As long as you are following your plan, getting your protein and fluids, taking your vit/mins, you will keep losing and stay healthy.

Congratulations on your surgery and welcome back!! Looks like you are doing a great job so far.
Everyone is so different so it is difficult to give you a one number fits all. I didn't stall until further out and closer to my first goal, but most everyone doe**** stalls. I still weigh daily it is part of my accountability to myself. You just have to not let it bother you when you have a gain or no loss.
