We can't even think about planting anything until the end of May - its still dipping down into the 30's here at night... makes a very short growing season.

Wow  Jody ...I know the long  days and non existent  summer ni ghts of the  NOrth sort of make up for it  .... but wow !

Do U have  a greenhouse ?   Or a beeeg window ?   U know  U can MAKE all of these things  ..ridiculously easily .

Please trust me on this .....whatever a man tells U  will take a month ..will take a woman a WEEK .   So just  go ahead  find some greenhouseplans U like ...and go to it .

shoot .... ive  harvested tomatoes here  in Broolklyn at the end of May ( not mid July  like my neighbors ) for YEARS now
simply by harnessing solar power with a 200 dollar  10 foot by ten foot   collapsible see-through TENT   from Home Depot  ( and raised beds which warm the soil faster )

Its fun !!  ( and it takes Ur mind off  the  bad food  while Ure harvesting HEAPS of the great ....  I harvested  SO MUCH beautiful and fresh mesclun and spinach this week ... and tomatoes ..I don't know what to do with them lol ..

What kind of tomatoes Price ? I have Hillbilly , a striped yellow and red large heirloom from Arkansas, Brandywine of course the delicious Amish can't-be - beat for flavor ... San Marzano for sauce and just GIANT vines .... Black Krim and Cherokee purple because they are delicious , productive and I love the colors ... Taxi for a pure yellow slicing tomato .

My Yellow Pear seedlings all died this cold nasty spring ... so I have to start them again . They are my favorite snacking tomato bar none .

Oh I also have a few British Large cherry seedlings ( Alicante) which do well in early greenhouse conditions and one 4 foot tall plant ....

and a Stupice also 4 foot tall that's been producing BUCKETS only in a man -sized south facing window . Stupice is a COOL plant I have to say producing .VERY good tasting tomatoes in cold and bad sunlight conditiions .but next year I'm gonna try " Silver leafed Fir Tree " and Paul Robeson a very special Russian heirloom goodtasting and maroon colored tomato just to be different .....

I can't have THAT many tomatoes.  Whew.  I planted Paul Robeson, brandywine and a black cheery so far.  I will only do one more or I will have more than I want to deal with.  I really like Health Kick, not a heirloom but a great tomato if I can find some started already.  I like high acid tomatoes so no yellow for me.  I've grown Purple Cherokee in the past but decided on the Paul Robeson this year instead.
