What a difference 2 years makes! NSV

We spent a couple hours today working on cleaning the boat.  It's been in storage all winter, so even though we left it clean, it needs waxing and buffing and all the cushions cleaned and protected and the decks scrubbed.  It's not done, but it was a good start.

2 years ago we had a smaller boat (16 1/2 foot open-bow runabout compared to the 22 1/2 foot sport cuddy we have now).  I had a difficult time getting down and scrubbing the decks, and could not twist and bend to wax the interior fiberglass.  I got tired easily, and it took me forever to do my part.

1 1/2 years ago we bought the current boat.  It's not only longer, it's much deeper.  When we bought it, I had a very difficult time climbing up the ladder into it, and could not fit through the windshield opening to get onto the bow.  And even if I could have fit, the step to get up there is rated for 200 pounds, and I was 254 so I was not going up on that bow.

Last year I could get in and out with ease, I was up and down from the bow, and able to scoot along on my back vacuuming the ceiling of the cabin and twisting to get the sides and in the compartments.  It still took me longer to do my part than it did DH, but I was much closer in time to him.

This year, even with thigh surgery just 5 weeks ago, I was in and out and up and down and twisting and bending - and EVERYTHING WORKED!  The cabin is done, the ****pit is well started, and I'll be done before DH for the first time in years!  Even better, I could get down on the deck and find all those blasted little seeds from the trees and get them swept up before washing things down!  I've never been able to do that before!

Yayyy for NSVs!

That's wonderful.  I am certainly more mobile now, can imagine how I will be in another year.  That is if my knee stops acting up.

Fantastic NSV's.  Even cleaning is easier and more gratifying when you weigh less.  I admire that you appreciate the small stuff.  It is a great reminder of how far you (I've) come and how much a healthy weight means in living life and just doing basic stuff.  I'm glad you're still on the board after 2 years out.  I need to hear from graduates, as I'm still a newbie.  Thank you.

Rebecca, that is sooo great!!!

I used to have to sit down while cleaning my house and be hot and sweaty when I got through.  Now I don't even get hot while cleaning the entire house.  Isn't this great???

Have fun on the boat after working so hard on it!  Congrats on your wonderful NSV, AND for healing so FAST.... I've said this before, but you must have kryptonite healing abilities and Godzilla's pain threshold.  You ROCK (but not the boat)!

Oh, believe me, I rock boats too!

You're going to love this one!

I had pain about 2 inches above the back of my right knee, as well as continued swelling in my right lower calf/ankle/foot.  Given that it was 5 weeks out, I figured there was something wrong and went in to see the reconstructive guys.

Their comment was "At last we found someplace where you don't heal at the speed of light!"

I'm fine, the pain is likely a caught nerve that's healing since it's intermittent, so unless it becomes consistent, I shouldn't worry.  The swelling is most likely caused because the long scar is along a lymphatic channel, so the generalized healing is causing my lymph glands to process more sludge, and if I take off the compression socks to wear cute shoes, my glands go "ooooh - free space!" and toss more sludge down into my feet, causing swelling.  They said that for some patients that can continue for up to 6 months, but based on the level of swelling I have, it may hang around another month or so.  In the meantime, I can take off the compression socks and wear cute shoes any time I want, just understand that I will swell and will need to put my feet up when I get home.

But my scars - things of beauty, according to the doctor, and the new PA who estimated me at 8 weeks out from surgery based on their healing.
