How much "about" should I expect to lose

Mel_Ga

from my two week pre surgery liquid diet plus the first two weeks after surgery.  I know everyone is different, but just an estimate????  I have a 35 BMI

Also  after 2 and 1/2 weeks after surgery, would most people feel up to driving their kids to an activity?  I am trying to decide if my kids can attend a morning camp about 15 minutes away for two hours about 19 days after my surgery.

Thanks for the replies in advance!

No estimate on the lose.  After 2 weeks you should have lost the weight from fluids during surgery and some more but who knows how much, or how much you will lose in your pre-diet.  We had 4 weeks and were suppose to lose 8% of our excess weight.  Everyone in my group did that.

At 2.5 weeks out, I could have driven 15 min to take kids to camp and back.

Oh yea - your kids can go to the camp and you can take them.  Some people go back to work 1-2 weeks after surgery - you'll be fine.  Just remember you still might get tired and rest when you can.  Don't overdo it.

I can't give you an estimate as far as how much weight you'll lose.. maybe someone else can chime in.

Not sure how to measure the 2 weeks before plus 2 weeks after. I can tell you I lost 21 pounds in my first month post-op and several other LWs have said they lost about the same the first month.

If you have no complications you can be driving as soon as you're off narcotic pain meds. I think I drove during my second week post-op and went back to work 1/2 days after 2 weeks and a couple of days.

Everyone is different with their weightloss, my 2 wk diet I only lost 3 pounds. 2 weeks later I had lost an additional 15.
My doc told me, as soon as you are off narcotics for pain, there is no reason you shouldnt be able to drive. That being said, everyone is different and soreness is different in everyone.
I was driving by then, you may be able to also.
Congrats!

I had RNY and lost 10 ipounds n the 2 week liquid diet . My first MD visit was at three weeks and I was down 12 from surgery so a total 22 pounds in the first five weeks.

I didn't have a big drop in my weight like some following surgery, but I have been very consistent  at losing 3 pounds a week.

Tomorrow is my six week appointment and should be at 188....which would be a total of 30 pounds lost. Its' been slow but consistent....I'll take it..

We all lose at a different pace.  Don't be discouraged if you end up like me....I'm a turtle but slow and steady will get me there too!!

Everyone is different. For your mental health, don't set yourself up with expectations (easier to say than do). If you follow your program, you will lose weight, but how quickly and how consistently vary so much. There are stalls (nothing for weeks), gains from getting more muscle, fluid retention, on and on. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Where you are a year from now is more important than where you are in one month.

As for driving, I drove myself over an hour to get my drain out one week after surgery. I would have walked if I had to.

Learning new behavior is the key to success. We have a wonderful tool after surgery, but we still have to do the work. I'm telling you all this to remind myself. Prepare for a wonderful ride, but with ups and downs.

Before losing weight pre-op, make sure it will not count against you with your insurance company if you are below a 35 BMI the day of surgery.

I had a 35.2 BMI pre-op and was told not to lose a single pound.

So be careful on that issue and check with your insurance company not the surgeons office about that.

As to driving, once off pain meds, it's really up to how you feel.
